Resolutions You Need To Make As A Car Owner

Most of us have a habit of making New Year resolutions and maintaining them at least for a month before the interest dies down. But, here are ten resolutions you need to make as a car owner and make sure you don’t forget to follow them. The most important reason why you need to follow it is not just to have a good-looking car but also to make sure it is in a healthy condition when you need it.

PS: Some of them will even save costs too.

  1. Car Maintenance Checklist

Having a car maintenance checklist should be the first resolution as a car owner, and make sure you make one right now if you don’t already have it. This checklist should contain the basic things that one needs to check regularly, and it should also include the time frame for each component as different parts are checked at different intervals. Regular servicing is something you will do twice a year, but things like checking the oil level, tyre pressure, coolant level, brake fluid level, battery are a few things you can check weekly or every time you take it for a drive.

  2. Car Emergency Kit

You never know what will happen even when you travel the same route all the time, and that’s the reason you need to have an emergency kit always in your car. This has got to be one of your top resolutions as a car owner to make sure you don’t wait for an eternity for roadside assistance to show up. Unless and until it is a major issue with the engine, transmission, electricals or chassis, with the proper knowledge, this kit is enough to reach the service centre at least.

  3. Never Ignore Warning Lights

Ignoring a warning light in your car is as dangerous as ignoring your angry wife/girlfriend. The more you ignore, the greater the impact. So apart from making up to your loved ones with gifts and dinners, try making a resolution as a car owner to never ignore a warning light in your car ever. Remember that this is not just for your safety but also for your loved ones.

  4. Learn to Fix Punctures on Your Own

Punctures are the most frequent things that can happen to any vehicle and not just a car. We have more confidence with the comfort of having tubeless tyres, but even they will eventually succumb to punctures. Thankfully, the process of fixing them is not rocket science, and any of us can do it. So it would be a wonderful tradition to learn this method as it can save you from a lot of trouble, especially if it happens at night at a deserted place.

  5. Regular Car Wash

It does not matter what other’s say but a clean car always looks better and gives you a feel-good satisfaction that can never be achieved by a cloud of dirty dust collecting vehicle in your garage. It does not matter if you wash it yourself or pay for it to be cleaned by experts, but the idea is to maintain the car in its best condition. If you want to own the car for a longer period, then you better stick to this resolution for as long as possible.

  6. Do Not Drive When Distracted

This is undoubtedly the most important resolution you need to make as a car owner to ensure the safety of your car and its passengers. The distraction while driving can be anything from a phone call to using your touchscreen infotainment system. Also, the distraction might not always be something that takes your eyes off the road, and it can be something that you are thinking about too. No matter how good you are at multi-tasking, it is not worth the risk.

  7. Read Owner’s Manual

We understand that not many are fond of reading books, but this is one very helpful book, and sometimes it might even end up saving your life in certain circumstances. The bonus is that there are many small things that you can fix yourself if you read the manual, without which you will end up paying money to the mechanic. You will understand it when you pay your mechanic for a 5-minute job that you could have done in your home with the tools that you already have or will be provided by the manufacturer itself.

  8. Do Not Neglect Tyre Pressure

Tyre pressure plays a significant role in not just saving money but also protecting your life. Maintaining the correct tyre pressure not only gives you better mileage but also makes sure that all the tyres are running without issues and avoids unnecessary disasters caused by punctures at high speeds. It is critical to make sure you check the tyre pressure every time before you leave for a journey.

  9. Learn Basic Maintenance Tips

As mentioned in the first resolution, regular servicing at the service centres and other maintenance checkups are always good for the car. But, in order to ensure that you are doing the checkup correctly, you need to learn a few essential maintenance tips. Most of it will be covered in the owner’s manual, and that’s why reading it will help you a lot with this. Stuff like checking the engine oil level, brake fluid level, tyre pressure, battery condition, etc., can be checked at home itself, and these maintenance tips are beneficial.

  10. Patience Is Always A Virtue

Last but not least, make a resolution as a car owner to minimize road rage irrespective of the situation you are in. Anger only clouds your judgement to make a decision, and in that rage, more often than not, you always make a decision that you will only regret later. Yes, we understand that it is always the other person at fault, but in order to minimize the damage to your vehicle and loved ones, we always suggest you calm your mind, wait for a few seconds and then decide. Sometimes we don’t even realize that it was actually us who caused the commotion over a silly matter, and our ego only added fuel to the firing rage inside. I think you can work wonders when you think patiently, and that is why you need to calm down in case of an incident rather than panic.

These are only a few of the resolutions you need to make as a car owner, and there are several others too that would benefit you in more ways than one. Please let us know what you think are other resolutions you have taken as a car owner that everyone should also follow only to make this world a better place.
