10 Worst Selling Cars In October 2019

Despite the 11-month long crisis that the Indian automobile industry has been going through, the month of October came as a ray of hope for the sector. The festive season of Dussehra, Diwali, Dhanteras brought along massive discounts and benefits.

Unfortunately, amidst this, there were some cars which saw no improvement in sales and were termed as the worst selling cars for the month of October 2019. These figures are based on the Y-O-Y sale basis respective to the car models.

10 Worst Selling Cars In October 2019

1. Mahindra KUV100

   

   The KUV100 is Mahindra’s take on the sub-compact SUV for the Indian market. Upon its launch, the KUV100 saw a decent start selling 1,244 units in 2018 but sales started to drop in the coming months. Mahindra launched the KUV100 NXT as a refresh for the existing model. Mahindra sold only 183 units of the KUV100 in October 2019.

2. Ford Aspire

   

   Ford’s very own sub-compact sedan, the Aspire was launched with much hope kickstarting the revival of the Ford brand in India. Ford sold 519 units of the Aspire in October 2019 as opposed to 2,520 units in the same month previous year.

3. Mahindra Thar

   

   Another Mahindra in the list. The Thar is Mahindra’s beloved hardcore 4×4 much loved in the Indian offroad community. Unfortunately, this love didn’t show upfront in the month of October. The Mahindra Thar only sold 180 units in October 2019 as opposed to 701 units in 2019. The Mahindra Thar hasn’t been a great seller for the company from the start, however, the sales slump gives this a whole new meaning.

4. Nissan Micra

   

   The future of Nissan has been in question given the rapidly declining sales figures of the company. The company has already taken actions against its budget brand Datsun by discontinuing operation in a few countries including India. The Nissan Micra sold a measly 66 units in October 2019 against 259 units in 2018.

5. Mahindra Marazzo

   

   Mahindra making its third entry in the worst-selling car list. The shark-inspired Marazzo MPV was pitched against the Maruti Ertiga and XL6 and the segment giant; the Toyota Innova. The Marazzo upon its launch managed to sell a good 3,810 in 2018. Unfortunately, October hasn’t been fair to the MPV selling only 1,044 units in October 2019.

6. Tata Hexa

   

   The Hexa by Tata was the successor for the Aria which itself turned out to be a bad seller for the company. The Hexa seems no different selling only 229 units in October 2019 against 745 cars in the same month in 2018.

7. Toyota Etios Liva

   

   The Etios Liva is Toyota’s compact hatchback rivalling the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz etc. Sadly, the Etios is doing great for Toyota in terms of sales registering a puny 612 units in October 2019 against 1,696 units in October 2018.

8. Toyota Corolla

   

   The Toyota Corolla used to be a good seller in the C-segment sedan category in India. However, with aggressive competition from much more upmarket rivals, it seems that the Corolla has fallen behind. The Toyota Corolla sold only 90 units in October 2019 in contrast to 242 units in 2018.

9. Tata Tigor

   

   The second Tata car in the list, the Tigor sub-4-meter sedan has been keeping up with the big sellers in the same category. The Tigor sold decent 2,927 units in the month of October 2019. Following the same month in 2019, Tata managed to shift only 1,152 units of the Tigor.

10. Maruti Suzuki Celerio

    

    The only Maruti Suzuki car in the list. The Celerio was launched as an upgraded, upmarket Maruti Alto for the new generation India. Maruti also introduced the Celerio X crossover hatchback version of the same car. Unfortunately, the sales figure haven’t been great for the Celerio selling only 3,669 units in the month of October 2019, which is very bad by Maruti standard. Maruti sold 9,620 Celerio cars in October 2018.
