17 Indian Cars to Be Discontinued in 2023! But Why?

2023 could be a good surprise for potential car buyers in India but we guess there are other things planned too. While the automakers have already announced price hikes there is yet another bad news we might have to bid adieu to many good cars that already exist in the Indian market. This is because of the upcoming RDE Norms which will be enforced from April 2023. Several Indian cars might get discontinued in 2023.

If these norms are enforced in April 2023, the Indian automotive market might have to lose around 17 cars that are currently in existence.

While we have already explained the same in detail, the main thing to know is that the new norms will require every car to have an onboard self-diagnostic device to monitor real-time driving emission levels. This device will be required to keep a regular check on parts like the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensors. RDE is basically the more stringent second phase of the BS6 norms that were imposed in 2020.

Apart from this, the vehicles will also be required to have special fuel injectors which will monitor the amount of the fuel burnt. Aprt from this, the semiconductors will also be updated which will monitor throttle, crankshaft positions, air intake pressure, the temperature of the engine and the content of the emissions from the exhaust. Petrol cars can still be safe when these norms come in, diesel cars will be the most affected. As the reports suggest, a total of 17 Indian cars might have to be discontinued in order to be compliant with the norms. Here is a list of potential cars which will discontinued cars
