Just after BS6 emission norms were put into effect, almost every carmaker in India decided to ditch the diesel engine with one such being Tata Motors who following the footsteps of others just abruptly discontinued its 1.05-litre BS-4 Revotorq versions of Tata Tiago and Tigor.
Although Tata Motors did launch the updated 2020 models for both the Tiago and Tigor but the only thing missing was a diesel engine variant. Now, a couple of new spy shots, brought forward by Rushlane.com have stormed the internet rumoured to be the all-new 2020 Tata Tiago diesel. These spy shots were taken somewhere near Tata’s testing facility in Tamil Nadu. However, just a few days back the all-new upcoming Tata Altroz turbo petrol was also spied testing in the same place.
So before going any further lets just clear things in the first place before making any assumptions of what this model could be. To some eyes, these pictures could be of the upcoming Tata Tiago EV but looking at that sleek exhaust tip jutting out the back, there is no possibility of it being an EV. Moreover, to some, this might also look like the BS6 Tata Tiago JTP but sadly this is not the case as it was just last month Tata Motors and Jayem Automobiles parted ways and there have been no indications of any upcoming products form both ends.

So to be on a safer side this only leaves us with only one possibility of it being a BS6 compliant model of the brands previous 1.5-litre BS-6 Revotorq diesel unit. The same engine can also be found under Tata’s two heavy-duty models the Tata Altroz and the Tata Nexon. However, there could also be another string attached to it which is that Tata could be testing an all-new powertrain for the upcoming Tata Tiago and Tigor lineup.

Currently, the 2020 Tata Tiago features a 1.2-litre petrol engine capable of generating 84 hp and 113Nm of peak torque and holds company claimed fuel efficiency of 19.8kmpl. The prices of the BS6 Tata Tiago starts at Rs. 4.6 lakh and goes upto Rs 6.6 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
