After Tata Safari Storm got discontinued in the second half of 2019, the void of not having a safari in Tata’s squad was pinching. To encourage made in India scheme and patriotism, Tata unveiled the Safari on 72nd Republic Day.

Well, the vehicle sure looked charming in blue at the time of unveiling. That said, Tata Safari will go on sale next month after its launch. Also, the carmaker will start accepting the bookings from 4 of February 2021.

Essentially the Tata Safari is a grown-up Harrier and shares a ton with its older sibling. So, here is what the 6/7 seater SUV will arrive with.

What powers the 2021 Tata Safari?

Peeping under the hood, we’ll find the same 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo diesel engine that also functions in the Harrier. In the Tata Safari, the engine that sits in the bay is not altered. Hence, it produces the same amount of power and torque figures.

  • The motor generates a healthy 170ps of max power and a whopping 350Nm of peak torque.
  • Setting the power down are the front wheels that derive motion from either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT (Torque Converter). Well, there is no change here either.
  • As of now, a 4X4 drivetrain is missing from the next-gen Safari lineup but may make its way in the SUV on a later stage.

What’s the Interior Like?

Stepping on the inside is where one can find the most number of changes. To begin with, the new Tata Safari gets:

  • A third row of seat.
  • An option of a 6/7 seater.
  • Lighter cabin shades for the seats but dark colour for the dashboard.
  • Apart from that the overall aesthetics of the interior remains unchanged and is similar to that of the Harrier.

Depending upon the information we have, Tata Safari will lock horns with MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV 500. But a thing to note is that there are several new upcoming SUV in the segment which could make the fight interesting. The cars include the new generation for the Mahindra XUV 500 and Hyundai Creta 7-Seater.

Let’s talk price, as it is the major variable when it comes to rivalry. If we had to guess, the 2021 Tata Safari will be priced a little over the Harrier, roughly ₹50,000-₹70,000. For you to know the Tata Harrier starts at ₹14.00 Lakhs and goes all the way up to ₹20.46 Lakhs both (ex-showroom). The launch in February 2021 will confirm the top contender.
