Mahindra SUVs have been the hottest selling stuff in the market for a while. Scorpio has spied a lot in the past while their SUVs like Thar & XUV700 have been received well. Now the manufacturer is planning to launch the new generation of Scorpio. It has been spied undisguised.
The Scorpio will be offered with two engine options like the XUV700. A 2-liter turbo mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine will be on offer. The engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. There will also be an optional AWD on offer.
It is codenamed Z101, and Mahindra has significantly worked on the design of the third-generation Scorpio. It has the signature 6-vertical slats grille along with the new twin-peaks logo, which was seen in the teaser. It is equipped with twin-projector LED headlamps with the foglamp housing in the bumper along with C-shaped LED DRLs.
The bonnet is flat with the twin hood-scoop missing and a front skid plate. Going for a consistent and robust design, it has strong shoulder lines and well-cut wheel arches along with chrome elements and black cladding on the side for a more beefy appearance. It stands on 18-inch wheels with newly cut alloys.
It gets regular door handles and indicators on ORVMs, which will be electrically adjustable and foldable. The high-mounted taillights also give a sharp look, and fans are saying that it has been inspired by Volvo. The modern rear bumper goes along well with the cladding continuing back.
Mahindra will significantly upgrade the interior with a new dashboard and an 8-inch touchscreen with a digital instrument cluster and an integrated Alexa. It will have a standard-size sunroof with automatic wipers and dual-zone climate control. The new Scorpio will also have a 360-degree camera along with an optional 6-seater layout with captain seats for the second-row passengers.
Mahindra has been going with competitive pricing for its previous launches and might go for the same strategy with this launch. The expected price could be starting from ₹10 lakhs (ex-showroom) and might be hiked up later. It will have a wide price range enabling Scorpio to also compete in the mid-sized SUVs too.
While Mahindra has been testing its candidate for a while, and it is expected to launch this year. The launches were already delayed due to COVID-19 and other issues in the industry, but now we can expect this legendary icon to launch in June 2022.
