2022 Mahindra Scorpio | What We Know So Far?

As everyone knows, the Scorpio is one of the most successful models from Mahindra‘s stable, and the fact that it will be completing 20 years in June 2022 is nothing short of amazing. That’s two decades of blazing the Indian tarmac, and you can say that it is the go-to vehicle for all the villains in Indian Cinema. Although it has received many facelifts, there was never a generation update which is why the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has a lot riding on its shoulders.

Looking at the spy shots and the features expected on the new Scorpio, you can be sure that the new anti-hero will be bigger, badder and meaner than its predecessor. Here are things that we know so far about the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio.

1. Design and Chassis

   

   The design is the most fundamental change in the new 2022 Mahindra Scorpio, and the spy shots make it clear about that. This is a welcome change, and we believe it looks more mature to handle the competition, and at the same time, it does not forget its roots that it’s a rough and tough SUV. It has larger dimensions which means it will be a spacious 3-seater in the second and third rows. The ladder-frame chassis is supposedly improved with the help of inputs from the Thar, and the suspension is tweaked based on the information from the XUV700. This makes sure that the Scorpio will have one of the best balance between ride quality and handling. At the front, the headlamps are redesigned and will be dual projector units, it has a C-shaped DRL that surrounds the fog lamps, and everything will be LED, of course.

2. Features

   

   With respect to features on the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio, it is guaranteed to be loaded to the gills. The above spy shot gives a clear image of the large touchscreen unit that the new Scorpio will come equipped with, which looks great. It is expected to get wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay as well. Other features will include dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, rear wiper and defogger, etc. The Scorpio will also get four off-road drive modes – Rock, Snow, Mud and 4H and 4L configurations in the AWD system. Another exciting piece of information is that all the other variants apart from the AWD version will have an RWD(Rear Wheel Drive) system as standard.

3. Interior

   

   The interior, which can be seen in the spy shot, seems very upmarket compared to its predecessor. The flat-bottom steering wheel, dual-tone leatherette upholstery and all-black dashboard layout give a very premium feel to the interiors. It is expected to come with a sunroof, connected car features, a semi-digital instrument console and also a rotary knob at the centre, which we believe is for the drive mode selector.

4. Engines

   

   The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be equipped with the same engines as the XUV700 but with a lower state of tune. This means you will be getting a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel and the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Turbo Petrol mStallion units. These engines will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. And of course, as explained earlier, the higher trims will get the AWD version with the different traction control modes.

5. Expected Release Date and Price

   

   Rumours suggest that Mahindra will follow what Bajaj did with the Pulsars and release the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio on the same day it was released 20 years ago. This means the expected launch date could be around June 2022. The price is likely to start from 10 lakh, which is pretty aggressive in our books. Although it is a more rugged SUV, because of its pricing, the Scorpio will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun.

We liked the previous version of the Scorpios and based on the spy shots and rumours, the new one seems to be even more impressive at what it does. After the success of the XUV700, the hopes are at an all-time high for the new 2022 Mahindra Scorpio, and we only hope that it will cater to the expectations, and we know that it ain’t easy.
