5-Door Suzuki Jimny To Be Launched In India Soon

The Suzuki Jimny was unveiled on Day 4 of the Auto Expo 2020. This one will replace the Gypsy. Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is still the off-roading cult followed and loved by many. Maruti is planning to manufacture the Jimny in India only! This is a piece of good news for sure. You have seen the Suzuki Jimy at the Auto Expo but the big news is that we are not getting what we have seen!

The Indian edition of the Jimny will not be the 3-door version as the Japanese market has got. Maruti is planning to launch a bigger 5-door version of the Jimny in India. The 5-door version of the Indian Suzuki Jimny is in its development phase right now but we expect to hear from Maruti really soon.

The 5-door Suzuki Jimny will be the same as the one we saw at the Expo. The main difference will be in the size as providing two additional rear doors will make it more suitable for family buyers. But the stretched version with an increased wheelbase will affect the off-roading abilities for sure! The 5-door version won’t have many changes in comparison to the 3-door one.

The Indian version of the J=Suzuki Jimny will be built on the ladder-frame chassis, feature rigid axles at both ends, and employ four-wheel drive with low-range transfer case. Talking about the engine specs, the Indian edition of the Jimny will have the 105hp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine which currently powers the Ciaz, Brezza and the Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki has already planned the production of the 3-door Jimny at their Gujarat plant. This will be a 100% export unit. The production of the Indian edition of the Jimny will also start at the same plant within a time span of 6 months. We can expect the Jimny to hit the market through the Suzuki Nexa dealerships and come in a price segment of around Rs.10 Lakhs.
