8 Cars from Auto Expo 2018 that didn’t make it on Indian roads

The auto expo 2018 was a grand motor show in India. Many new automakers like Kia participated in the expo and displayed a huge range of vehicles which they wanted to launch in India. Who knows what went wrong but we are still not able to find these cars on the Indian roads. Here are the most hyped cars from auto expo 2018 that still don’t exist anywhere in the Indian subcontinent!

  1. Maruti Survivor Concept

Maruti Suzuki showcased their survivor concept in the auto expo 2018. The car was an electric 4wd concept and resembled the iconic Gypsy and the Grand Vitara. Maruti is no longer the old school brand as they have introduced many up to date cars with top-notch features in India.

We heard about the launch of the Jimny in India but the electric 4wd Survivor is still nowhere on the cards. Talking about the electrics, Maruti Suzuki is working on the Futuro-e which is actively being tested and we will find it on the roads soon!

Hyundai showcased its Iconiq hybrid and electric in the last auto expo. Hyundai was planning to take a leap into the world of electric cars by introducing the Iconiq in the Indian market. All of us know that Hyundai introduced the Kona electric in India. Similarly, in this case, we don’t know what’s with the Iconiq hybrid and the Iconiq electric. The automaker has not provided any update till now.

  3. Kia Rio/ Kia Optima, Kia Soul EV

Kia Motors was about to enter the Indian market and AETMS’18 was the stage where they showcased their portfolio in India for the first time. Kia brought its global lineup in the exhibition but didn’t confirm what we could expect to be launched in India. As we have entered 2020, we have already seen that Kia has launched the Seltos only and plans to bring the Carnival here soon. The Kia models displayed at the previous expo included the Stinger sports sedan, Niro plug-in hybrid, Optima plug-in hybrid, Rio hatchback and Soul EV. Let’s see if Kia brings any of them here in the near future.

Renault plans to launch the Zoe EV in the upcoming auto expo 2020. Renault has realised the need for EVs to stay updated. They have planned everything for the Zoe.

  5. Tata Tamo

This was a racecar concept built by Tata. It was showcased in the auto expo 2018 and looked quite promising. The only aspect Tata didn’t think of was the price. Tata dropped the idea of making this project live as they thought it won’t be a financially viable product. It was a sports car that had a built-in camera which would click pictures of you while you raced through! With Tata dropping the plan of Tamo, India missed the chance of getting another sports car!

Mahindra showcased multiple cars like the next-gen E2O which was an upgraded version of the already existing E2O. We haven’t seen the next-gen E2O getting into production till now. Apart from this, Mahindra also showcased the ‘e-KUV100’ and the Stinger. The KUV100 electric is planned for its India launch really soon. Talking of the Stinger, it was based on the TUV300 and really built up the wow factor in Mahindra’s pavilion. We don’t think Mahindra will put it into production anyhow! However, they have definitely planned a facelift for the TUV300.

Honda showcased the sports EV at the auto expo 2018. This was similar to a concept that Honda had revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in the same year. The concept was stunning, no doubt! Honda never said that they were bringing it to India and we have seen no changes in this plan until now. Similarly, the Clarity sedan was showcased in the fuel cell version and just for your information, don’t expect this one to arrive in our country as well!
