9 Best Mileage Cars In India Of 2019

With fuel prices slowly achieving new heights and the various international fuel emission scandals, the Indian automobile industry is seeing fuel efficiency as a significant factor for growth. Fuel efficiency or good mileage is one of the most important factors one takes into consideration while thinking about buying a new car. With the traffic ruling the street nowadays, fuel-efficiency has become one of the important factors financially too. The constant hike has raised concern among the entry sector car-buyers.

With advantages like low initial cost and better NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) level, petrol powered vehicles are more environmentally friendly and fuel efficient than their respective diesel versions. But due to easy drivability provided by the diesel engine, thanks to low-end torque, it provides a good resale value and therefore good fuel-efficiency.

The factors that determine the mileage of a car are the fuel it uses, the capacity of the engine, the mould of the vehicle and the size of the vehicle. Remember that the biggest is not always the best.

9 Best Fuel Mileage Cars In India For 2019

  1. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
    Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz offers the best mileage with the diesel engine ranging up to 28.0 kmpl of mileage. It is available in 14 variants in India. Even though the petrol variant only offers a mileage of about 20.0 Kmpl, the diesel version offers a whopping 28.0 Kmpl. With a 90hp, 1.3-litre mild-hybrid engine along with its plush, roomy and well-equipped cabin area, justifies its high sales figures comrade to rivals like the Hyundai Verna and Honda City.

Indian road tests of Ciaz 1.5 diesel show that it can deliver an average of 18.87 Kmpl making it the best car in fuel efficiency. The range varies from Rs 9.20 Lac up to Rs 11.38 Lac.

  2. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
    Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Dzire is the best mileage car in this list. With its 75hp, 1.3-litre, DDiS diesel engine moulded into a lightweight body, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire can go an impressive 28.4 Kmpl for diesel. Being the largest and the fastest-selling compact sedan; Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the most owned car in India.

The Dzire charms with its swift performance, fuel efficiency, cabin room, and equipment list. Maruti’s excellent after-sales network helps Dzire maintain its value. However, once Maruti discontinues the Fiat-sourced 1.3 diesel from its line-up (before BS6 emission norms come into play), this line-up will look quite different.

  3. Honda Amaze

Taking the competition to the next level, the new-gen Honda Amaze launches to compete with the big boys, Maruti and Hyundai, by improving all aspects of a compact sedan. The Honda Amaze’s 1.5-litre diesel is shared with the Jazz and the City.

Being unique as it is, it also comes with a smooth CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox option along with the 6-speed manual. However, the motor delivers an impressive mileage of 27.5 Kmpl, when paired to the 7-step CVT. Even though the engine is noisier and some of those vibrations do filter into the cabin, it’s quite an efficient unit to drive.

  4. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is one of the most fuel efficient cars, thanks to the new BS6 compliant 90hp, 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine. But Baleno diesel continues unhindered- it shares its 75hp, Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox with the Dzire and is underpinned by the same light-weight Heartect platform, resulting in an ARAI-rated 27.39Kmpl.

It is rival to the cars such as Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, etc. With rates being pocket-friendly too, Baleno lists itself a quality buy.

  5. Honda Jazz

Honda gave its answer to fuel efficiency with the Honda Jazz. Equipped with the Japanese brand’s efficient, if noisy, 100hp 1.5-litre diesel motor, which is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Jazz offers a spacious and decent experience.

Being a fully equipped premium hatchback, the Honda Jazz diesel is priced from Rs 8.12 lakh to 9.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The next-gen Jazz will make its public debut at the 2019 Tokyo motor show in October. Jazz delivers an amazing 27.3 Kmpl mileage making it a Jazzy option.

  6. Tata Tigor

Keeping comfort and convenience in mind Tata came up with Tata Tigor. Tigor is amped up with top-notch features for a solid driving experience with the right combination of a substance with style.

With a maximum power of 85PS/6000 RPM and max torque of 114 Nm/3500 RPM, Tigor delivers a quality average of 27.28 Kmpl. Making it one of the most fuel-efficient cars manufactured in India.

  7. Tata Tiago

Tata recently updated its Hyundai Santro and Maruti Celerio rival, the Tata Tiago, with more equipment, making it an even better value for money proposition. While the Tiago’s 1.05-litre diesel engine may be on the duller side– it makes 70hp and 140Nm of torque. It is one of the most fuel-efficient small types of diesel around.

Tiago’s cabin area also feels quite upmarket and it drives like a more expensive car too. Tiago is able to provide a lovely average of 27.0 Kmpl. The diesel Tata Tiago ranges from Rs 5.25 lakh to Rs 6.62 lakh.

  8. Ford Figo

Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10’s nemesis, the Ford Figo. USPs include the excellent ride and handling, strong build quality and good value. But, despite a recent facelift, it does miss out on some features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Ford Figo diesel is marginally less fuel-efficient than its slightly heavier compact sedan counterpart. Both have the same 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and are the enthusiasts’ option in their respective segments. The surprise enfolds with its mileage of 25.83 Kmpl.

  9. Honda WR-V

WR-V is currently the closest you can get to a compact SUV from Honda. Based on the Honda Jazz, the WR-V differentiates itself from other Honda manufactured cars with bespoke styling, a raised and reworked suspension and black interior theme. The Honda WR-V is offered in petrol-manual and diesel-manual form but there’s no automatic.

With 90hp, 1.2-Litre engine, the compact SUV, feels lazy in town and it’s really the 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel that’s more in tune and provides a better experience while driving. Unfortunately, the diesel engine is quite noisy. Having a slightly bulky body WR-V offers a great mileage of 25.50 Kmpl.
