German brands have always been a dream for most of us. While VW and Skoda do launch some slightly affordable cars, the big 3 still remain unreachable. One such premium German car is the Audi Q5. The facelift of the Q5 launched in India back in 2021 and Audi recently introduced a new Special Edition for the Q5 that gets new color options and a few graphic changes. However, at Rs. 67.05 Lakhs(ex-showroom), are German cars really that premium? Today, let’s see the comparison of the Audi Q5 vs Hyundai Tucson! Seems unconventional, doesn’t it? But, both these cars are quite similar in what they offer, so why not?!

Audi Q5 vs Hyundai Tucson – Exterior
The Audi Q5 looks quite elegant and understated. It looks classy, but there’s no X-factor to justify the price. However, through the ages, brands have realized that classy and understated is the way to go for luxury vehicles. The new headlights and grille do make the Audi look a bit more modern and up-to-date, the rear, however, remains the same. The overall size of this vehicle is also not very large, as you can see in the dimensions below. The Tucson on the other hand is filled with cuts and creases throughout and it looks very modern. It is just a tad bit smaller than the Q5. The DRLs that submerge into the grille especially give it a very unique look. Even at the rear, there’s a lot happening with the sharp lights, and all in all, the Tucson looks quite nice as well. Both these cars are head-turners, no doubt.
Car | Height | Length | Width | Wheelbase |
Audi Q5 | 1.652mm | 4,682mm | 2,140mm | 2,819mm |
Hyundai Tucson | 1,665mm | 4,630mm | 1,865mm | 2,755mm |

Audi Q5 vs Hyundai Tucson – Interior and Features
Things change a bit when you get inside these cars. Let’s start with the Tucson. This Korean SUV is very premium, especially considering the segment it sits in. It gets all sorts of comfort and convenience features and had soft touches all around the cabin. The colors used inside feel neutral, yet premium. The quality of materials used is also very good and the overall touch and feel is top-notch. Coming to the Q5, this SUV is also very premium. However, it would be unfair to say that the touch and feel of the Tucson is just as good. The Q5, even though uses similar touches, feels much more premium. The noise cancellation, quality of leather, touch and feels on the buttons, and the overall nature of the interior is much higher than the Tucson. The features are very similar in both these cars, where both of them have their strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a short feature comparison list.

Engines
The Tucson gives you the option of choosing a petrol or a diesel engine whereas the Q5 only gets a petrol engine. The petrol engine on the Tucson is truly underpowered, however, the diesel has plenty of power. Overall, the engines on both these cars are very refined and hardly make any sound when driven lightly. The diesel on the Tucson is of course a bit noisier, but in general, it is very silent. Both cars are super smooth to drive and can cruise at very high speeds with ease. The Audi, being a German wins this part of the Audi Q5 vs Hyundai Tucson comparison because of the handling, power, and ride quality.

Value for Money
Considering VFM is of utmost importance in this comparison of Audi Q5 vs Hyundai Tucson because it makes a lot of sense. The Hyundai Tucson is priced between Rs. 27.69-Rs.34.54 Lakhs(ex-showroom). The Audi Q5 is priced between Rs. 60.50-Rs. 67.05 Lakhs(ex-showroom). The Audi costs almost double of what the Hyundai costs and offers very few extra features for that much money. As a matter of fact, it even misses out on important features like ADAS and ventilated seats. Keeping that aside, the maintenance costs of an Audi will easily be 3 times more than that of a Hyundai. The Hyundai Tucson takes at least 2 steps ahead in this comparison of Audi Q5 vs Hyundai Tucson when it comes to VFM.

Conclusion
We know that this is not a very realistic comparison. Someone looking for an Rs. 70 lakhs car would not even visit the Hyundai showroom. However, when you take into consideration the number of things you get for your money, the Tucson makes a lot more sense. The Audi Q5, by all means, is a better car with premium interiors and a better engine. It may also have many hidden convenience features and details that only owners will understand. However, this does not justify the Rs. 30 Lakhs price difference.
