Best Mid-Size Sedans To Buy In 2022

While the market has been influenced by SUVs, sedans have also been trying to make their way back with some new launches. They offer the best comfort & convenience with good legroom and massive boot space. Sedans are aerodynamically better and well planted on the road. They have good handling & dynamics, which makes cornering fun with the power. Let’s look at the best mid-size sedans in 2022:

  • Volkswagen Virtus

    The Classy Virtus

This is VW’s attempt to re-ignite the sedan segment in India with their Virtus. It is a modern sedan with sleek cuts and new features. It offers an impressive package along with the German driving dynamics and a GT variant. Virtus has already entered the India book of records by delivering more than 150 units in a single day.

It comes with two petrol engines; the 1.0-litre TSI makes 115hp & 178Nm torque, while the 1.5-litre TSI churns out 150hp & 250Nm torque. They both come with a 6-speed manual as standard, while the smaller engine gets the 6-speed automatic, and the latter one gets the 7-speed DSG gearbox. The bigger engine also gets cylinder deactivation tech which enhances fuel economy. It also gets features such as a single-pane sunroof, connected car tech, a digital driver’s display, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. 

  • Honda City

This is among Honda’s top products in India; the City has been around since 1998, with the 4th & 5th generations on sale. The All-New City offers a decent package with both petrol & diesel powertrains, comfort & convenience features, and a sunroof. It also offers excellent fuel efficiency of up to 24kmpl.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine makes 121hp & 145Nm torque  while the 1.5-litre diesel engine churns out 100hp & 200Nm torque. The former engine is mated to a 6-speed manual with an optional 7-speed CVT, while the latter only gets the 6-speed manual transmission. It gets features such as ambient lighting and connected car tech, dual-tone alloy wheels, and an 8-inch  touchscreen infotainment system.

  • Skoda Slavia

After VW replaced Vento with Virtus, Skoda replaced Rapid with Slavia. They both share the same platform and the powertrains. It is like a baby Octavia with the signature front grille and a bold design. It also shares some elements with the Kushaq; it has an extensive wheelbase with excellent driving dynamics & a solid build.

This sedan offers features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a single pane sunroof, front ventilated seats, cruise control, and auto climate control, and the top trim also gets an 8-inch digital driver’s display. It has a fuel economy of up to 19kmpl along with punchy performance.

  • Hyundai Verna

The Verna was first launched in India in 2006 and has been around ever since with the respective generation updates. The current version comes with multiple engine options with both petrol and diesel along with a turbocharged engine too. It offers connected car tech, a digital instrument cluster, and an upmarket interior from Hyundai.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine makes 115hp & 144Nm torque, while the diesel engine churns out 115hp & 250Nm torque. The 1.0-litre turbo-petro engine makes 120hp & 172Nm torque. The former engines come with a 6-speed manual as standard with a 6-speed AT for diesel and an optional CVT for petrol. The turbo petrol engine is only available with a 7-speed DCT. 

  • Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Ciaz is the most affordable sedan on this list and sits just behind the Honda City in the segment. It offers good value for the money with a potent engine and some modern features. It shares the engine with other cars such as Brezza, Ertiga & XL6.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine makes 105hp & 138Nm torque, and it is available with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard along with a 4-speed  automatic torque converter on offer. It is equipped with features such as passive keyless entry with push-button start, leather upholstery, and cruise control, along with automatic LED headlights.

  1. i am looking to buy brand new suv or sedan shortly. my regular use will be 30km per day and currently i am using Honda Jazz since 2012. i have a family of 3 persons so which car i should buy n why?
