    Ah yes… How will any top 10 car list make sense without the Maruti WagonR gracing us with its presence? Here we have the Maruti Suzuki WagonR claiming the topmost position selling 18, 656 units in the month of April 2021. The WagonR saw an ever so slight dip (-101 Units) in sales compared to March 2021, but this number is literally negligible for Maruti.

    We have another Maruti on the list. This time it’s the Maruti Suzuki Swift making it to the second position selling 18,316 units which is 3,398 units less compared to March 2021 (21,714 units)

    The Swift in all its years of evolution has remained the best selling premium hatchback. It is also one of the most popular cars amongst youngsters. The Maruti Swift is also equally popular amongst the modding and custom car community.

  3. Maruti Suzuki Alto (17,303 Units)

    The tried and time tested and incredibly reliable Maruti Alto. The Alto is India’s very own car. Similar to the WagonR India has shown immense love towards this dinky little hatchback for decades. The Alto is a consistent performer in the best selling cars sale report and this time it has sold 17,303 units which is -98 units less compared to the previous month.

  4. Maruti Suzuki Baleno (16,384 Units)

    Wait! Another Maruti? Don’t be surprised though. Maruti pretty much dominated the Indian car market by a major share. The Maruti Baleno here is another premium hatchback from the house of Maruti and people love it. The Baleno and Swift somewhat share the same segment however, the former is more popular with the older demography primarily young corporates.

    The Maruti Baleno sold 16,384 units which are 4,833 units less than March 2021. Should Maruti be worried?

  5. Hyundai Grand i0 NIOS (11,540 Units)

    Finally, a Hyundai in the list! The Grand i10 NIOS secures a position in the top 5 selling 11,540 units which is 520units more than March 2021. The Hyundai Grand i10 in its new NIOS avatar can be considered as the breadwinner for Hyundai in India. Carrying the rich legacy of the i10 of the yesteryears, the Grand i10 NIOS is rightfully doing justice to the name.

  6. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (7,738 Units)

    Maruti is back! and this time with the S-Presso mini-SUV; that is what Maruti says (but we seriously beg to differ) is Maruti’s attempt at creating a new segment of Mini SUV. With its tall stance and SUV-ish looks, spacious interiors and vibrant colour options, its looks like the plan has worked for Maruti with the S-Presso selling 7,738 units (486 units more compared to March 2021).

  7. Tata Tiago (6,656 Units)

    Tata Tiago or Lord Tiago as it’s popularly known. The Tiago is a 4-Star Global NCAP rated car and the safest entry-level hatchback from the house of Tata Motors which spends most of its time testing rivals cars on the roads for crash safety and crumple zone. The Tiago is a good runner for Tata in the hatchback market selling a decent 6,656 units in the month of April 2021.

  8. Tata Altroz (6,649 Units)

    Pratap Bose’s brainchild; the Tata Altroz is a premium hatchback from Tata Motors. The Altroz was introduced in the Indian market after a lot of hype and spy shots and from the numbers it definitely looks like the Altroz made it. Tata sold 6,649 units of the Altroz in the month of April 2021 which is 901 units less than the previous month.

    The Altroz upon its launch drew some criticism for its underpowered engine, refinement and lack of an automatic transmission. Tata resolved this by launching the Altroz iTurbo with its Nexon-derived 1.2L Turbocharged Revotron Petrol Engine.

  9. Hyundai i20 (5,002 Units)

    Another “i” from the Hyundai stable has made it to the top 10 best selling hatchback list. The Hyundai i20 is a premium hatchback brought in to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Tata Altroz. The i20 of the yesteryears was a darling of a car amongst India.

    The recent avatar of the i20 has drawn some thumbs down just for its looks (which is subjective). However, the 2021 Hyundai i20 comes packed and loaded with features like a Bose Surround Sound music system, an in-car air purifier, a large touch screen infotainment system with an all-digital dash and a lot more.

    The Hyundai i20 sold 5,002 units in the month of April 2021 which is disturbingly less (-4043 units) compared to March 2021.

  10. Maruti Suzuki Ignis (4,522 Units)

    The third car on the list that reported an upward growth trend, after the S-Presso and the i10 NIOS. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is another small hatch but with added bells and whistles. The Ignis can be considered as a premium small hatchback.

    Ths ignis charted a sale of 4,522 units which is 163 units more compared to the previous month.
