BPCL to have BS6 fuel at nozzle level by March 1, 2020!

The new emission norms in India, the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) are now a month away only. Most of the fuel stations have already started working towards the availability of the new fuel type i.e. the BS6 fuel. Meanwhile, there is a piece of good news from BPCL that they will have all their pumps BS6 ready by tomorrow!

Yes, BPCL has claimed that all their filling stations will have BS6 fuel to the nozzle level. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has 15,400 fuel stations in its panel right now. The company has already started the final leg of its preparation for the BS6 fuel till the time you are reading this article.

R. Ramachandran, Director (Refinery) at BPCL said, “We are through with what we had to,” while addressing the media about his thoughts on the new emission norms that India will have from the next month. BS6 fuel availability is the prime concern that fuel companies are working on right now. They have got the infrastructure ready and the refineries are also set to produce the new fuel.

Earlier this month, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) claimed that 15,000 out of 27,000 fuel stations that IOCL owns currently are now ready with the BS6 fuel on the nozzle level. While BPCL has invested over Rs. 7000 Cr to make their fuel stations BS6 ready, IOCL has spent almost 15,000 to 16,000 Cr to bring BS6 fuel to their fuel stations.

The upgrade to get the BS6 fuel ready on the nozzle level has resulted in the price hike by 70 paise to Re. 1 for BPCL. They still hope that the government should help the people so that the price hike doesn’t get passed on to the customers in any manner. BS6 is just around the corner and we are yet to see any action from the government’s side till now.
