BYD Atto 3 VS Its Rivals | Which one to choose?

Electric cars are gaining pace and more customers are considering buying these zero-emission vehicles. With demand growing, many carmakers in the country are introducing more electric cars in the country. And the latest vehicle to come into the Indian market is the BYD Atto 3. But with the introduction of any vehicle, there always are competition. But it is safe to say that as of now, BYD doesn’t have any straight-up rivals.

The reason lies in the price range at which it is sold. Talking about the numbers, BYD launched the Atto 3 at Rs. 33.99 Lakh (ex-showroom). And at this price range, there aren’t any electric vehicles.

Still, the closest vehicles to rival the Atto 3 are the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona. There also is Volvo V40 but that is way more expensive that the BYD. But it’s always fun to compare cars in higher price ranges.

So, to close up the gap, we are considering the top-end Exclusive Iconic Ivory variant of the MG ZS EV. Next, the top-end trim of the Hyundai Kona costs Rs. 24.03 Lakh also ex-showroom. Moving on to the most expensive vehicle, the Volvo V40 Recharge, it is offered with just one variant, P8 AWD. This vehicle is priced at a whooping, Rs. 56.90 Lakh (ex-showroom). Which is way too much considering the price of any of the other three cars.

Well, the price of the vehicle also defines the power. Meaning, this it the Hyundai Kona electric generates the least power, followed by the ZS EV, then Atto 3 and the Volvo is the most powerful vehicle.

Nevertheless, as said before it is the Volvo V40 Recharge that is the most powerful. However, due to the efficient drivetrain, and relatively large battery, BYD offers the most range of the lot. BYD comes with a 6.48kWh battery that is good enough to extract a claimed range of 512kms. So, if the range is one’s priority now you know which vehicle offers the best value.


The next criterion to judge a vehicle is its size. And electric vehicles have an exceptional advantage when it comes to space and dimension ratio. As electric vehicles don’t have an internal combustion engine, it opens huge space on the inside. However, this is when the electric vehicle is made from the ground up.

Why not Hyundai Kona? Well, Hyundai Kona is the oldest vehicle on the list and as of now the company also has no plans to update it in the Indian market. Although it has already been updated in many international markets.
