COVID19 or the noble Coronavirus has led us all into quarantine. No one is allowed to get outside and drive for a change. Amidst this, our cars are also suffering a great deal of isolation. Are you worried that your car will be dealing with a lot of problems during this? Can you help your car? Yes, for sure you can. Here are the 10 super easy car DIYs that you can do while in quarantine.
-
Handbrake | Relieve the brakes
As we know, there is a total lockdown of 21 days which means you won’t be able to drive the car for at least 21 days now. So it is highly advised to disengage the handbrake as the stress on the brakes might cause the braking pads to get stuck with the drum. This will surely cause a problem. So it is better to release the handbrake and use wheel chocks, i.e. bricks or a piece of wood to keep the wheel from moving. To keep the car from rolling, leave the car in the first gear. Let your car remain stress-free!

Cover The Car
The best method is to park your car in covered parking or indoors. But if that’s not possible, it will be good to cover the car. Make sure the cover is compatible with your car. This will prevent corrosion, dirt build-up on your car and exposure due to sunlight.
-
Clean the interiors
Before you park your car indoors or cover it up, make sure that the interiors are clean. You might have left in a chocolate wrapper, some leftovers or simply some trash from the last time you ate inside your car. All the organic material can rot inside your car causing damage to the interiors. Or worse, the smell can attract rodents inside your car and they can damage the upholstery, floor mats or even the wiring inside your vehicle. You won’t love the sight of it! So make sure that the interiors are clean. It would be best to vacuum clean the car interiors if possible.
-
Fill up the fuel tank
Now, you will say that why fill the tank when I don’t have to drive? Leaving the fuel tank empty will pave the way for corrosion and rust to enter the tank. The next time you fill fuel in the tank and start your car, fuel won’t be the only thing entering the engine. It will bring in the rust particles to the unit causing damage. So it is highly advised to fuel up the tank so that the moisture is kept away from the tank.
-
Battery Maintenance
It is the powerhouse for all the electricals in your car. Thus, if the battery is out, you won’t be able to even start your car. Although modern cars have good battery discharging prevention systems it is highly advised to remove the battery terminals of the battery as it will be standing for a long time now. If the battery is water-based, check the water level and fill it up if lower than the prescribed level. Only use distilled water for your batteries be it the inverter battery or the car battery. The discharged water from AC units is also distilled thus can be used for the top-up. Also, make sure to apply some petroleum jelly or grease on the battery terminals and wire clamps to prevent corrosion.
-
Shield The Paint
Apply a coating of wax or polish on your vehicle. But before that make sure that the surfaces are clean. Remove any dirt or grease stuck on the car. Paint otherwise can be easily damaged even if the car is covered. The wax or polish will ensure that the paint remains protected. It would have been best if you had got your car ceramic coated! But then, make sure you do once the lockdown is over. Get it done from professional car care service. While you have all the time you wanted, have a look at the comprehensive guide to different types of car coating. Read here.

Wingardium Leviosa
Levitate your car, not by using the Harry Potter magic, but by jacking it up using four jacks so that your car is not resting on the wheels. This will make sure that the wheels don’t flatten up with time. This will release the pressure over the wheels. Also, keep on checking that the tyre pressure is optimum, i.e. keep the tyres properly inflated.
So here are the car DIYs you can do to make sure your car is as good as you want it to be. Also, stay inside, let the epidemic end. In the meantime, you can watch car movies or car shows that will let you kill time during the quarantine.
How can I fill my car tank when there is lockdown?
Although the petrol pumps are open at present, I would suggest you wait for some relaxation in the lockdown. Till then you can take other precautions mentioned in the article. Even the fuel tank is half-filled, it will do the job.
