5 Cars Sold In India And Abroad BUT, At Different Prices

Within a short span of time, India has become one of the major automotive markets around the globe. This means that we Indians do get to experience cars that are sold globally. But are we paying any extra or any less than our global brothers/sisters? Let’s take a look at 5 such cars with a considerable difference in prices when we compare the price in India vs the price in a different country. Let’s begin counting!

  1. Maruti Suzuki Ignis (Sold In South Africa)

The ones who follow Suzuki on a global scale know very well that Indian manufactured Ignis is sold in South Africa. Suzuki Ignis comes at a cost of R1,93,900 (South African Rand) which when converted to INR is ₹9,71,850. For your reference, the starting price for Ignis in India is ₹4,89,320. Both, the African and the Indian model have a 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood.

  2. Kia Sonet (Sold In Nepal)

The sub-compact SUV was launched by the end of 2020. Within a few days, it took the Indian market by storm. When launched, Kia mentioned that India made Sonet will be exported to various parts of the world, one such country is Nepal. If you are living in Nepal, 35,90,000 Nepalese Rupee or when converted in INR would be ₹22,51,000. I feel bad for our Nepalese brothers as they are actually spending almost quadruple of what we would have to. Sonet in India comes at a starting price of ₹6,79,000. As for the powertrain options, features and every other aspect, there is no difference at all.

  3. Hyundai Venue (Sold In the US)

This is one of the initial sub-compact SUVs that have been constantly showcasing the potential of this segment. Hyundai Venue has stayed in the top 10 selling cars of India. The starting price of the Venue in India is ₹6,86,700. For the same car (Not at all the same though, we’ll get to this part in a bit), you will have to spend $18,750. This amount when converted in INR is ₹13,60,573. This might seem to be a bit too high. But the Venue in the USA offers driving modes, collision avoidance assists, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, curtain airbags, Traction control, TPMS, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and much more. These features are not available in the Indian version, even on the top specs.

  4. Ford Ecosport (Sold In the US)

Before comparing the prices, let me boil a bit of your blood. Americans do get an option of a 4WD Ecosport! This is available with the 2.0-litre TI-VCT engine only. We Indians don’t even have this engine option. Americans also get the 1.0-litre Ecoboost which was given to us earlier, but we never took it seriously. We only get a 1.5-litre Petrol engine and the same capacity diesel engine. Now, let’s get to the prices. In India, Ecosport has a starting price of ₹7,99,000. In the USA, you will have to spend $19,995 which when converted to INR translated to ₹14,51,297.

  5. Nissan GTR (Sold In the US)

What is the GTR doing in the list comprising of everyday cars, till now! Well, there is no particular reason, I just wanted to end the list with a sports car. Nissan GTR comes at a cost of $1,13,540. When converted to INR, ₹82,41,527 is what comes out in the currency converter as of 15.02.2021. The same car, when brought through the CBU route (you already know, where this is headed), comes at a massive price of ₹2,12,00,000! Being a CBU, what you do enjoy is the same spec sheet.

And that comprises our list of 5 cars sold in India as well as various parts of the world, at different prices. There are a lot more cars, we’ll be covering them in our next part. Do we Indians get what we deserve when it comes to cars? Do let us know in the comments section below.

  1. The prices that are less in the US are less because dollar has a very higher value than Indian Rupee. India was a country that was full of politics and many things just sound very much expensive here when compared to same thing sold in dollars like cars. The Supercars that we get in India are less priced in USA. Very worst thing that I heard about pricing in India and other countries.
