Car Sales April 2020 : Hyundai leads with Zero domestic sales!

Car Sales April 2020 won’t be much difficult to guess. The country is going through a nationwide lockdown where the production facilities and the dealerships remain closed. Many automakers are actively working towards the COVID-19 relief tasks whereas the others have advised the employees to stay home suspending the production. Customers, on the other hand, are trying to fulfil the basic necessities as the first priority.

Indian population is very much interested in fulfilling the basic needs and concentrating only on essentials as of now. No one is thinking about buying a car! Though most brands have launched online showrooms and campaigns where you can buy a car online but the car sales in April 2020 clearly show that it is not working at all. The major automakers in India have recorded 0 sales figure this month. Maruti Suzuki reported the number before anyone else did. Following the trend, Hyundai, MG and Mahindra joined the bandwagon.

Car Sales in April 2020 remained 0 for Maruti Suzuki as their production facilities were closed to abide by the national lockdown. However, MSIL managed to export 632 vehicles from Mundra port which has recently resumed operations. Mahindra & Mahindra managed to export 733 vehicles this month. Mahindra & Mahindra had suspended the production of cars in the facilities and was manufacturing face shields, masks and sanitisers. They were also working on a low-cost ventilator in some of the facilities.

Hyundai also recorded 0 domestic sales but surpassed Maruti in the car sales in April 2020. This is because Hyundai managed to export 1,134 vehicles due to the port operations. However, the YoY export figure has also fallen by 92%! Hyundai plans to re-open the operations after May 3rd with all the necessary measures and permissions.

Morris Garages – the Chinese giant that entered India with a successful debut (the MG Hector) also reported the number 0 for sales in April 2020. This is because all their dealerships were closed due to the lockdown. They started manufacturing in small bits at their Halol facility and wish to ramp up after May 3rd.
