Car Sales Report – May 2021 | Lockdown Hits Bad!

Car Sales May 2021 has been bad due to the second wave of COVID-19. India was running after oxygen and medical supplies. Buying a car in this tough time is not what we expect and now that we have experienced a heavy bump in sales, we expect June 2021 to be a better month for the Indian automotive industry. Let’s have a look at what each brand was able to sell in the past month.

  1. Maruti Suzuki (32,903 Units)

    Ignis
    Maruti Suzuki Ignis

As always, Maruti Suzuki is at the top with a sale of 32,903 units. Just imagine, if MSIL hasn’t been able to scale 50k this month, how bad would be the numbers you are going to see further in this article. MSIL’s sale dropped by almost 76% in May 2021. Considering the fact that they had shut production and were working on providing medical oxygen to the nation, we must say, MSIL definitely cares for the nation. About profit, they were always on the top, and will always be!

  2. Hyundai Motors India Ltd. (25,001 Units)

In the second place for car sales in May 2021, is Hyundai Motors India Ltd. with a sale of 25,001 units. All of us know that Hyundai will be bringing in the Alcazar, most probably this month and we highly expect it to boost the brand’s sales considering it would be a completely new vehicle to experience from the house of this Korean automaker.

  3. Tata Motors (15,181 Units)

The Indian auto brand, that is growing with each new day. Be it Altroz, be it Tiago, be it Nexon, all of them are selling really good in the market. How can we forget Harrier and Safari! Both of them are doing equally great in terms of gathering sale number for their parent brand. Tata Motors closed May 2021 with a sale of 15,181 units which is 39.51% less than what they sold in the last month.

  4. Kia Motors India

Hyundai’s sibling brand is selling in great numbers in India. We have Kia on our list of car sales for the month of May 2021, With a sale of 11,050 units for the month of May 2021, Kia motors experienced an MoM drop of 31.41%. They are planning to hit new segments in India and we expect them to do that really soon because sustaining in a market like India with only 3 cars will get difficult after a certain point of time.

  5. Mahindra & Mahindra (8,004 Units)

We hope they launch the XUV700 soon to jump up the sales chart. For the month of May 2021, Mahindra finished the month with a sale of 8,004 units and forms the first one in the chart that couldn’t hit the 10k mark. The upcoming SUVs can surely offer a huge jump in the numbers but for that Mahindra needs to plan good and launch them with time.

  6. Renault India (2,620 Units)

This is where the graph began to fall by a huge steep. From Mahindra ranging in 8000, Renault recorded a sale of just 2,620 units which is almost 70% less. Triber has scored a 4-star GNCAP rating yesterday marking it as the cheapest safe MPV in India. Kiger also continues to do good in the Indian market which is why we expect Renault to boost again once the situation gets normal.

Continuing our list of Car Sales in May 2021, we have Honda Cars India in 7th place with a sale of 2,032 units. No doubt City has the majority here but it would be really good if Honda re-introduces a hatchback in the Indian market. Don’t you think Brio is much needed in the Indian market once again?

  8. Volkswagen India (1,425 Units)

Selling without facelifts like a boss! Volkswagen India ended up the month of May 2021 with a sale of 1,425 units which means they have sold 7% lesser than what they sold in the last month. We have VW at the 8th rank on our car sales report in May 2021. Considering how other brands have experienced huge falls, VW falling only 7% is a really great sign for them. Do you think Volkswagen will introduce their new generation cars or facelifts in the near future?

  9. Nissan India (1,235 Units)
