7 Cheap and Non-Functional Car Mods that aren’t fooling anyone

You must have come across cars that make a lot of unwarranted noise, or have over the top “performance mods”. Such cars are known as ‘Rice’ cars and let us tell you something, they are an absolute waste of money. These mods offer no performance upgrades and instead reduce it. Here are 7 such car mods that are cheap and useless.

1. Oversized Tailpipes (Fart Cans)

   

   Well, there is a common misconception that needs to be cleared first. People normally think that cars with cannon-like exhaust have a fart can. But this not actually true. Some cars with cannon-like exhaust may have been properly modified that must have added to the performance of the car. But the ones, which only make weird sounds are the ones equipped with a fart can. It is advised that do not, I REPEAT DO NOT, use these oversized tailpipes or the so-called Fart cans which only add to the sound pollution and nothing else. If you really want to modify the exhaust system, you must use a proper exhaust system that enhances the performance figures of the car.

2. Huge Spoilers/Wings

   

   Spoilers are meant to keep the drag force and the downforce on the race car in check. On the cars that are meant to reach 80-90kmph barely, these forces are not enough. Equipping spoilers on a car like let’s say WagonR, there is no usage of the spoilers and you are just wasting your money on them. A friend of mine was suggested by a salesperson to have a spoiler fitted on his WagonR by the company itself. Being an automotive enthusiast, he knew this is nothing but a cosmetic upgrade to the car. So he refused. Be like my friend. Say no to fake spoilers or wings for your car.

3. Fake Hood Scoops and Vents

   

   Hood scoops and vents around the sports cars are meant for proper ventilation of the engine and other moving parts. But these are not meant to be there on the hood of an everyday car. There is no usage of such scoops and vents on a normal car as the company has already made enough arrangements for the cooling of the engine as well as the moving parts. Cutting down the hood and fancying it with hood scoops is a total wastage. This may also lead to seeping of water into the engine bay which otherwise the hood prevents.

4. Body Kits

   

   For this, people will say that sports cars do have body kits, which for sure enhances their performance. Well, that’s absolutely true. It is because a great amount of time and money has been invested in the R&D of the body kits. The ones you will find in the market for your car are just there to increase weight and make your car look like a sports car. So it is advised that don’t equip your car with a body kit at all. Some companies do provide body kits with cars. Let us tell you that they are just going to enhance the car cosmetically and nothing else would change.

5. Fake Badges, Stickers & Emblem

   

   Go to Karol Bagh in Delhi and you will find a lot of stickers, badges and Emblems lying around the shops. These stickers will not at all help in the enhancement of the performance. Actually, these will leave a mark on the car body once they start peeling off. Also, some people get Audi or BMW badges on their car when actually it is from some other company. This is not at all a good practice. Either stay happy with what you have or try to achieve more and own an actual one.

6. Extra-Wide tyres

   

   Companies do a lot of research on cars, even if it not meant for racing purposes. The tyres that the company provides are optimum for achieving good performance. Extra-wide tyres will only lead to nothing but more surface for friction, for which there will be an extra load on the engine to overcome it. Wide tyres are useful when rough terrains are taken into account but are useless on a normal road.

7. Cringey Cosmetic Upgrades

   

   Neon lights, Fake Carbon Fiber Panels, Window Tinting and chrome wrapping are other cosmetic upgrades that are not at all meant to make your car faster. These will only make a car look good, and that too for a very few times. Sometimes, the wrong colour of neon lights can also lead to legal trouble. It is, therefore, a complete wastage to get these upgrades or actually SAMEgrades that will not at all enhance anything on the car.
