Remembering The Chevrolet Enjoy | A Lesser-Know Chevy MPV

Toyota Innova has been ruling the MPV segment since its launch, then came the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that managed to grab attention at a lower price tag. Then there existed an MPV from the GM, Chevrolet Enjoy. The catch is, Enjoy was surely a good value for money and came equipped with features, it lacked finesse. This was one of the reasons it didn’t appeal to the Indian car buyers.

Chevrolet Enjoy enjoyed its time in the Indian market from 2013-2017. It was introduced to take on the rivals, especially the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. With a traditional MPV stance and utilitarian aura on the inside, it was indeed a decent buy. Without wasting any more time, its see what Enjoy had up its sleeves?

What the car had under its bonnet?

The engine decides how the car feels on the road especially in traffic and out on the highway. Chevrolet Enjoy had an underpowered engine when compared with its rivals. Talking about the powertrain, the MPV had 2 engine options to choose from, a diesel and a petrol engine. The petrol engine was a 1.4-litre mill that produced 100.2ps and a decent 131 Nm of peak twist. The diesel, it was a 1.3-litre unit that had a dull power output of just 74.8ps and equally dry 172.45Nm of peak torque. Both of the engines were mated to a 5-speed manual transmission without any option of an automatic.

Engine Specifications

Engine 1.3-Litre Diesel 1.4-Litre Petrol
Transmission 5-Speed Manual Gearbox 5-Speed Manual Gearbox
Power 74.8ps @ 4,000 rpm 100.2ps @ 6,000 rpm
Torque 172.45 Nm @ 1,750 rpm 131Nm @ 4,400rpm

The engine does what is on paper, it was very underpowered and when loaded, struggled in getting to the pace. Talking about the acceleration, Chevrolet Enjoy took nearly 22 seconds to clock 100kmph from standstill that is like a year in automotive acceleration.

Fun Fact: This car was one of the few rear-wheel-drive vehicles in India under ₹10lacs price bracket.

Was the interior Pleasing?

Well, yes! Chevrolet equipped the Enjoy with top tech for the time, but the quality of materials and the overall layout of the dash looked dated.

  • With that said, Chevrolet Enjoy came with features like a single-din CD player with aux input, rear ac vents with fan speed adjustment.
  • Talking about the space, Chevy did a really good job in space management. Even the 3rd row of seats had ample legroom, more than its rival Maruti Suzuki offered.
  • This MPV also came with a sliding middle row to open up more room.
  • Chevrolet Enjoy also cleverly offered a 12v power sockets for the 3rd row of seats.

The MPV, Chevrolet Enjoy, was not a looker in the first place but it wasn’t bad in any sort. Aesthetics are somethings that are subjective but most of the family car buyers didn’t like the straight and commercial design. With that said, when comparing with Maruti Ertiga, it was longer and taller that helped the MPV to open up more room inside.
