Citroen Berlingo XL MPV Spied Testing in India

French automobile manufacturer Citroen has begun testing its rumoured India line-up. The brand’s first model for the Indian market, the Citroen C5 Aircross has already been spotted testing multiple times. Much recently a test mule of the Citroen Berlingo XL MPV has been spied testing on Indian roads by Autocar India.

Citroen launched the latest generation of the MPV in 2019. The company sells the Berlingo in various countries across the globe. The Berlingo MPV is based on the brand’s EMP2 platform and is offered in two variants.

What powers the Berlingo MPV?

  • Under its hood, the European spec 7-seater MPV comes with 3 engine options. It has a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine generating 110hp. The 1.5-litre DV5 diesel motor comes in two variants capable of producing 101 hp or 128 hp.
  • There are two variants of the current-gen MPV. The standard version measures 4.4m in length while the Berlingo XL stands at 4.75m.

What will we get to see (feature-wise)?

  • Looking at the spy shots, the new 7-seater MPV on the outside looks very similar to the Renault Lodgy and packs a split headlamp cluster, Citroen badge mounted on the horizontal slats, rectangular grille, tall pillars, wide air inlet, prominent vertically stacked tail lamps, side cladding and blacked-out rear bumper.
  • On the inside, we can expect the Citroen Berlingo XL to come with three-row seating configuration with a plethora of features.

Will the Berlingo launch in India?

  • Seeing the current situation of the MPV segment, it is pretty unclear whether Citroen will launch the Berlingo XL in India or not.
  • Citroen used the test mule to test their 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, some rumours suggest. We expect this engine to power the brand’s upcoming made-in-India ‘C-Cubed’ range.
