CNG to Get Cheaper In India? | MSIL’s Cow Dung Plan!

While the demand for CNG cars and hence the fuel itself is growing exponentially in India, MSIL has come up with a new plan wherein they will help to bring down the cost of the fuel as they have planned to use a widely available resource in India to generate natural gas. Maruti Suzuki has announced that they will soon be using cow dung to power CNG vehicles in India.

In the image above, you can see how 10 cows, in a day, can produce enough dung to power a car for one day of its running. although these figures are not exact, ofcourse but still they can be extremely beneficial looking at the demand. Asia’s largest dairy manufacturer, the National Dairy Development Board has signed up an MoU with Suzuki which is similar to what they did with Fujisan Asagiri Biomass in Japan. This is also an arrangement where natural gas is derived from cow dung. Apart from this, Banas Dairy has also joined hands with MSIL to supply cow dung for this plan.

Now that we know India and Japan are already on the cards for producing CNG using cow dung, the automaker further plans to use the same tech in ASEAN countries and Africa in the near future. Furthermore, Suzuki plans to invest around 4.5 Trillion Yen by FY2030 where  2 trillion Yen will be electrification-related investments, of which 500 billion Yen will be battery-related investments and the other 2 Trillion will be spent on capital investment.

Last but not least, the brand plans to invest a lot in areas that can ensure carbon neutrality. These include electrification and biogas, as well as autonomous, BEV battery plants and renewable energy facilities.

Do you think producing CNG from cow dung is a good option in India? While we look forward to it, you can drop your thoughts in the comments below!
