Chinese carmaker Geely Auto has been planning on stepping into the Indian market for quite some time now. Geely had planned on entering India in 2019, soon after MG entered India with the Hector. Geely too had similar plans of launching a mid-size SUV in the Indian market. They plan on launching the ‘Proton’ series in India, starting with the Proton X50.

What is the current status?
Currently, the Proton X50 is undergoing extensive testing in India. Geely auto wants to hit the most in-demand market, the mid-size SUV market. To make sure that their product stands out, they’re putting it through an elongated and extensive series of tests. There is no official statement from Geely Auto suggesting an entry in India, but rumours suggest that they have had an eye on this market for a while. They are also planning on expanding in Malaysia and other SE Asian countries.
