If you can shop around when buying a fridge, a TV set, or a camera, why not shop when there’s a denting/painting job? There are certain procedures in denting and painting that we have covered in detail for this 2013 Volkswagen Vento. Our video is for people who know nothing about dent/paint shops. Watch till the end to know more and save money on your next denting and painting quotation!

Some of the important procedures are listed below:

Removing Dents & Adding Body Fillers

The first is removing dents and scratches on the vehicle’s external body. The deformed panels are made to look like how they looked before the mishap. If the area has any rust, it was also ground out.

Body filler evens out any irregularities of the underlying layer. It can be sanded easily and provides a smoothen the dented surface for painting. The emery paper is wrapped around a small wooden block, sanding the area using smooth reciprocating strokes until the surface is smoothed. First, dry sanding is done, and then wet sanding is done.

Painting And Clearcoat

Before starting the painting process, we have to mask the car to save it from overspray. The paint gun is used in a side-to-side sweeping motion. Typically, it will take three to four coats to cover the surface completely. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s drying time – this can vary from 20 minutes to an hour.

The clear coat seals everything else and is applied last. It protects the car from damage caused by hail, snow, UV radiation, and scratches. The clear coat is exposed to all environmental impacts (e.g., bird droppings) during a car’s life.

In the last step,  rub and buff the painted panel in a circular motion with a rubbing compound that helps smooth the body’s surface. Finally, the know-how of these denting and painting procedures will help you decide everything on your next visit to the workshop.
