Great Wall Motors To Make Its Debut In India

After the success of MG and KIA other Chinese carmakers have also started eyeing the Indian Auto sector. Recently, Great Wall Motors is planning to foray into the Indian automobile market by 2021-22. the company has already commenced appointing the local automotive business. The carmaker is all set to target the highly competitive passenger vehicle space with its potential products.

Great Wall Motors In India | Highlights

  • Great Wall Motors sells models under four brand names which include Great Wall, Haval and WEY along with ORA their electric car brand. The company in 2016 sold over 1 million cars worldwide and in 2018, the manufacturer sold 766,062 Haval branded vehicles in China alone.
  • With less than 4 months for 2020, Auto Expo Great Wall Motors will make its debut in India with the brand Haval Motors. It currently holds a range of mid-size to full-fledged luxury SUVs such as the Haval H2. The H2 is a face-on competitor for the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks, while the Haval H6 takes on the MG Hector, among others.
  • Although the manufacturer has a long list of models which it sells worldwide, the smallest of all from the Haval brand is the H1 which stands under 4-metres in length and would meet Indian sub-compact segment requirements. 
  • Additionally, Great Wall Motors latest models are the Haval F5, F7 and F7X along with H4 and all of these come with petrol engines only. These SUVs are around the size of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos or the MG Hector and Tata Harrier, models that they are expected to rival.

  • The Haval brand is not a new name for the Indian auto sector as nowadays its SUVs have been seen doing test runs on rigid Indian roads. The company is looking forward to investing a huge amount worth 7,000 crores in order to set up a massive manufacturing plant in Gujarat. A similar step was taken by another major company in China, the Shanghai Automotive Industries Corporation (SAIC) at the Chinese park in the Sanand auto manufacturing zone.
  • For the Indian market, Great Wall Motors Indian has already set up a research and development centre in Bengaluru and has appointed  Kaushik Ganguly former Maruti Suzuki executive to lead its operations as a director for – Product planning and strategy.
