Honda City 2020 Launch, Expected Price, Variants & More Explained

Like most of us during the COVID-19 outbreak, Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) also had to press pause on their most awaited plans and projects. The fifth-generation 2020 Honda city was scheduled for launch mid-April but being the party-pooper this year has turned out so far, Honda India simply couldn’t afford to launch their “bread earning” product in the country in such unfortunate times.

However since ‘Unlock 1.0’ is now underway, we might have some good news for the new City. Here’s everything we have so far and also the latest updates we have on the Honda City.

New Engine on the New City?

The current model of the City recently got a BS6 compliant version of the 1.5L i-VTEC engine. Despite that, the company is not planning to use the engine for the next generation.

The new 2020 Honda City will have a completely new version of the 1.5L i-VTEC producing just slightly more power than the ongoing model @121 bhp and 155nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT based automatic unit. The diesel, on the other hand, was discontinued on the ongoing model as of now, however, it will be making a comeback in a BS6 avatar with the new car with same specs @99 bhp and 200nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual as before. No reports of a diesel auto as of now.

Honda City 2020 Exterior Styling & Dimensions

The new design, even though it consists of radical changes, is still able to retain the City DNA while keeping up with the new design language of Honda cars. The car resembles the company’s international model, Honda Insight with styling cues such as the huge chrome nose in the front and the LED headlamp unit.

The visual of the car makes it appear bigger than the ongoing model and why would it not since the new City is 113 mm longer and 53mm wider than the current car. The long bonnet and shorter boot also enhance the sportiness of the car, unfortunately, the shorter wheels just don’t seem to compliment the car’s overall interesting design.
