Honda City Hybrid Revealed: Superb Blend Of Mileage And Power!

Honda City Hybrid: Exterior, Interior And Features

Exterior

The Honda City Hybrid doesn’t get many changes on the outside. To differentiate it from the regular city, it gets

  • a distinct e:HEV emblem.
  • A redesigned front grille.
  • Rear diffuser.
  • A new fog lamp garnish and gets an additional rear trunk spoiler.
Interior + Features

It sports a two tone ivory and black colour theme which is different from the regular Honda City petrol version that has an all black cabin.

It now has the Honda connect feature that integrates Amazon’s Alexa and the Google Assistant along with smartwatch compatibility. Apart from this, the City gets a 7” full colour MID, and 8” touchscreen (Apple CarPlay +Android Auto), 8 speakers, and several new ADAS functions as well.

Some other unique features of the Honda City Hybrid include walk away auto lock, and the ability to start the AC from the remote key fob.

Honda City e:HEV Highlights –

Higher torque, smooth engine

Being a Hybrid powertrain with electric motors, it is bound to have the edge over petrol cars in terms of torque and smooth drivability. It has a higher torque output of 253 nm, enabling instant access to the power needed in various rpm ranges.

The Honda City Hybrid features a 1.5 Litre petrol engine coupled to 2 electric motors. While the 1st motor will play the role of a generator, the 2nd one will be used as a traction motor, as stated by Honda’s top official. It has a combined output of 109 ps, a best in class 253 nm of torque. This enables it to reach a top speed of 176 km/h.

8 Year battery Warranty

To attract new buyers who haven’t experienced a hybrid car before, Honda has given a standard 8-year lithium-ion battery warranty and a 3 year, unlimited kilometres warranty. Many other warranty packs are available at a more premium cost.

50% more fuel efficient 

Honda claims the Honda City e:HEV to be around 40-50 % more fuel efficient than the regular petrol counterpart. This would mean that it would have a claimed mileage of around 26.5 km/l!

Honda City Hybrid gets 3 driving modes. A Hybrid mode is given for mid-speed driving (40-80 km/h), and an all petrol mode for highway drives (80-120 km/h). An all EV drive mode is for city driving (speeds below 40 km/h). The electric Motor charges itself through regenerative braking.

The Honda City e:HEV is the first Honda car in India equipped with the Honda safety sensing technology. The safety features include:

  1. Collision Mitigation Braking System
  2. Road Departure Mitigation
  3. Lane Keep Assist System
  4. Adaptive Cruise Control
  5. Auto High Beam Assist
  6. Other Features Include Tire Pressure Motoring System, Vehicle Stability Assist, Emergency Stop Signal,
  7. All 4 Disc Brakes
  8. Electronic Parking Brake + Automatic Brake Hold
  9. Usage of ultra high strength steel

Please note that all these features were not available in the regular petrol Honda City. All these safety features are additional, although the Honda City e:HEV does get the safety features of the regular Petrol version.

Price

Only the ZX will have the option of the Hybrid powertrain. It will be a full flagship model. Although Honda hasn’t revealed the price yet, we expect the price to be around 16.5 – 17.5 lakhs ex-showroom. The official price reveal will be early next month when the deliveries start. Pre Bookings will start from today on 14th April.

Yup, it is an Indian car, so that is an added advantage as well!

Even though carmakers nowadays are focusing on full-fledged EVs, Honda seems to find the middle ground between a full-fledged EV and gas-guzzling petrol.
