8 Features We Find Missing In The Honda City

The Honda City has been around for two decades, and the 5th generation is now hitting the roads. It has been the most favourite sedan of the people and gained many fans and appreciation throughout the time, holding its head high.

It reached the markets in July 2020, powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine making 121hp & 145Nm torque mated to a 6-speed manual/ CVT. The new motor gets a twin-cam setup ensuring better control over valve functionality.

We cannot deny the credit to Honda City for setting the sedan market & trend in India, but at the current time, the competition is cut-throat. Now people have other options such as the Skoda Rapid & upcoming Slavia, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz & Hyundai Verna. These competitors offer some features the Honda City does not; let’s take a look at them:

1. Ventilated Seats
   

   

   While this feature might not seem too big and premium to some people, it is essential for long drives in summer. Other competitors such as the Hyundai Verna are the only ones offering this utility in this budget, and one can understand the importance after using them a bit.

2. Turbo Petrol
   

   

   The Honda City runs on a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine that churns out 121hp & 145Nm torque, which functions well but could perform better with a turbo. Skoda Rapid packs a 1.0L TSI engine which makes 108hp but 175Nm of torque.

3. Diesel Automatic
   

   

   Honda offered a diesel CVT with the Amaze, which received a decent reaction from the people, but the City still misses out on a diesel AT variant. The Hyundai Verna is the only one offering a diesel AT in the segment; this configuration might not be as popular as petrol AT but indeed is worth introducing.

4. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
   

   

   Honda added this in the latest, 5th generation City but the previous 4th generation City is still on sale without a TPMS. A TPMS is essential these days, which helps detect a flat tyre quickly by indicating changes in the tire pressure.

5. Rear Disc Brakes
   

   

   Honda City is still running with the old front: disc | rear: drum brake setup, which is okay, but better braking ensures more control & safety. The Hyundai Verna again is the only one offering rear disc brakes.

6. Digital Instrument Cluster & Wireless Charger
   

   

   With the rapidly changing technology, we need to keep pace with the same; the 5th gen Honda City has a refreshed instrument cluster with  MID in the middle, but it is still outdated. In addition to that, the old 7-inch touchscreen had significant functionality issues, to which Honda can pay a little more attention. In addition to that, a wireless charging pad is a necessity too for the near future.

7. Electrically Adjustable Driver Seat
   

   

   Again, the Verna gets the upper hand with an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, helping the driver adjust the height, knee support & incline electrically. Honda City offers manual controls to change the driver’s seat, which also needs to be updated.

8. Auto Start-Stop
   

   

   This feature is essential for every AT vehicle; as soon as the driver takes the foot off the brake pedal, the car crawls forward, helpful in bumper-to-bumper traffic. This feature makes the engine accelerate automatically when the brake pedal is released, which further helps in saving fuel too.
