Battle of the Brothers: Hyundai Creta vs Alcazar

2021 has been a good year for SUV’s. First Tata Motors blessed us with the Safari( they could’ve done a better job), and now the Alazcar is just around the corner. The much anticipated Hyundai SUV has finally finished testing and the Korean brand has also revealed the specifications of the Alcazar. But is it worth the hype? Time to pit it against it younger brother. So readers here is the comparison: Hyundai Creta vs Alcazar.

  • Features

Indians nowadays are really hyped about the bells and whistles the car has offered and Hyundai is known to offer a comfortable, quirky and up to date interior. The same kind of dashboard layout can be expected from the Alcazar as the Creta, the only difference being All black interiors with the orange colour pack, Soothing blue ambient lighting, Inside door handles (metal finish), Leather Door armrest, Rear seat headrest cushion, Rear parcel tray, Door scuff plates – metallic, Rear window sunshade, D-cut steering wheel, 17.78 cm supervision cluster with digital display. Pretty neat Hyundai.

  • Steering and Suspension

Suspension and steering play a big role in the ride quality of a car. Let’s see how the big brother matches against his sibling. Almost identical suspension type can be seen on the Creta and Alcazar, the only difference being coil springs. That tells us that the ride quality will almost be the same for both cars.

Rear suspension RR CTBA Coupled Torsion Beam Axle
    Steering Type Power Power
    Steering Column N/A Tilt
  • Dimensions

The whole point of buying a 7 or 8 seater car is more space and practicality. Let’s see if Hyundai has taken care of it.

    Hyundai Alcazar Hyundai Creta
    Boot Space 180lts 433lts
    Wheelbase 2760mm 2610mm

Although it is too early to say given that these are only the initial dimensions, but it looks like the third row of the Alcazar won’t be as comfortable as say a Toyota Innova Crysta and is mostly a dummy made for kids. You would also have to cut down on your weekend camping luggage as there reduction in the boot space too.

  • Powertrain

If ain’t it got the right heart, nothing else matters. There’s been a pattern of offering the same engine in the 7 seater versions as the regular cars, but Hyundai has been smart in this area and gone all in.

    Alcazar Creta
Engine Type NU 2.0 1.4 GDi Turbo Petrol
    BHP 156 bhp 138 bhp
Transmission  6 Speed Manual 7 Speed DCT Automatic
    Drive Type FWD FWD

Hyundai developed an all-new 2.0-litre petrol engine called the ‘NU 2.0’ for the Alcazar so it shows they mean serious business. There is also a significant bump in power from 138bhp to 156bhp so you won’t is lagging for power, whether hauling in city traffic or flying off on the highway. The one thing that they could’ve done better is offer an automatic transmission along with the 6-speed manual, which is somewhat a necessity while driving a big car.

  • Price
The factor which makes all the difference for Indians. Let us see how big of a hole will the Alcazar burn in your pockets.

    Alcazar Creta
    ex-showroom 13-20 lakhs(ex-showroom) Delhi 10-17.5 lakhs(ex-showroom) Delhi

Hyundai has been clever with the pricing of the Alcazar. It is a tad more expensive than the Creta but also undercuts its main competition; the MG Hector Plus. Full marks!

On paper, the Alcazar looks very promising. Stylish looks, plush interiors, a great engine and sits in a good price spectrum, but will it be good enough for people to choose it over the Creta? Only time will tell. We can’t wait for the Alcazar to hit the streets but for now, this was the Hyundai Creta vs Alcazar.
