Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai recently became the no. 1 passenger vehicle exporter by exporting over 5,000 units in May 2020 since it resumed its production form May 8th 2020. it seems that this Korean carmaker took our PM’ ‘self-reliant’ India or Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan quite seriously.
Where it all Began!
The Korean brand began its production in India in the year 1999 and since the past 20 years, Hyundai has exported over 3 million vehicles. In 2019, Hyundai India itself exported around 1,81,200 units along with 792 customised country-specific variants. Additionally, The brand was also accounted for almost 26 percent of the total vehicles exported from the country in 2019.
Current Situation
As of now, the brand exports 10 of its models under the ‘Make in India – Made for the World’ initiative which includes Atos (Santro), Grand i10, Xcent, Grand i10 (Nios), Elite i20, i20 Active, Accent (Verna), Venue and new 2020 Creta to almost 88 countries in 4 continents.
Currently, Hyundai India exports 10 models, namely the Atos (Santro), Grand i10, Xcent, Grand i10 (Nios) and Grand i10 (Aura), Elite i20, i20 Active, Accent (Verna), Venue and new Creta. Globally, Hyundai exports ‘Made-In-India’ cars to 88 countries in 4 continents – Latin America (33 countries), Africa (28 countries), Asia Pacific (26 countries) and Europe (1 country).
Hyundai Motors India exports its vehicles to multiple countries across Australia, Middle-East, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Africa. The brands impressive export strategy has not only helped it gain the trust of its existing and future customer but has also attracted the Indian government to buy their state-owned vehicle form the Korean brand. In 2019 the Indian given meant bought 600 Hyundai Kona electric vehicles to support the ‘Clean India Green India initiative’.
Additionally, on September 24, 2019, the Korean brand also conducted an International Partner’s meet in Delhi where over 60 of the brand’s global partners from countries like South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Vietnam, Chile, Peru and Columbia participated. To spread its presence worldwide Hyundai has also been exploring some new market places like Ethiopia, Zambia and Ghana where the brand is planning to launch its forever hatchback ‘The Santro’.
