Engine and Transmission

Both, Hyundai i20 as well as the Hyundai i20 N-Line share the same powertrain and drivetrain. Speaking of which, both the cars come with a 1.0-Litre turbo petrol motor.

Engine Specs

Engine 998cc T-GDi G3LC Turbo Petrol
Power 118hp@6,000rpm
Torque 172Nm@1,500rpm
Fuel Efficiency (ARAI Claimed) 20 kmpl
  • This motor is capable of generating a peak power of 120ps and 172Nm of peak torque.
  • Talking about the transmission, this is where Hyundai could have given a manual transmission.
  • But instead, the new Hyundai i20 N-Line comes with a couple of transmission options. A 7-Speed DCT and a 6-speed iMT.

Talking about the design, both the i20s get the same design. Also, the i20 N-line shares a lot of cues except for some red accents on the bumper and side skirts.

  • Again, with the i20 N-line, Hyundai could have provided the all-LED headlights that are offered in the international spec of the N-line.
  • That said, over the conventional i20 the N-Line gets a sportier and a little more aggressive front and rear bumper.
  • Moving to the sides, the additions are a set of side skirts with red piping and redesigned 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
  • It is the rear, that truly justifies the N-Line badge. Along with the sportier bumper, this hot hatch also offers twin-tip exhaust this time.
  • And no they are not fake, instead, the note from the exhaust is music to the years.

It is the same situation on the inside too, both the hatchbacks share the exact same interior layout. But justifying the sportiness, the i20 N gets many cosmetic and colour updates.

  • On the inside, the Hyundai i20 N-Line gets red accents to an existing all-black interior. With that, the car also gets a red hue to the ambient lighting.
  • Next, the N-line also gets the N logo engraved onto the seat with a chequered flag.
  • The N_-line logo is also prominent on the shift knob in both the transmission options, iMT as well as the DCT.
  • Another upgrade over the conventional i20, that the N-line offers, is a bespoke premium 3-spoke steering wheel. (With paddle shifters on the DCT variant.

The most prominent upgrade in the new N-Line variant is its driving dynamics.

  • The new sportier variant gets a sportier and a little stiff suspension setup. This enhances the feedback on the steering and also reduces body roll.
  • With that, the new i20 N-line also boasts disc brakes on all 4 corners increasing the brake bite of the hatch.
  • But the sad part is both the cars share a similar powertrain and drivetrain.

Expected Price

The next-gen Hyundai i20 was launched last year with a ton of changes. And with all the changes, came a sudden price hike. Hence, at this price, the Hyundai i20 is the most expensive hatchback in its segment.

Now with the introduction of the N-Line variant, the price will go up even further. That said, Hyundai will offer the N-line in two trims, N6 and N8. N6 will be based on the sports variant whereas the N8 is based on the Asta trim. Talking about the price, the top-end trim of the Hyundai i20 is priced at ₹11.40 Lakhs. But with the updates, we can expect the price to be ₹1 – ₹1.5 Lakh over the conventional variant.

  1. The Hyundai i20 N Line can be a successful product if it replaces the regular Turbo petrol variants and of course it would have been great if they offered a 1.6-TGDI like the international market.
