Hyundai Palisade Vs Kia Telluride | Same-Same But Different

Almost twins in the sense of shared platform, powertrain and most of the specifications, Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride are still different. Here are a few points about both of them which might help you make a better choice when these cars launch in India. We will use a point-based system where the car with the better standing in that category will get 1 point while the other gets a 0. Some of these categories are our personal preference like the looks of a car and some are hard numbers like the performance. If both features are similar each car gets 1 point.

Kia Telluride already has a better standing as it just won the car of the year award World Car Awards which happens in New York Auto Show. The event was streamed online this year to prevent transmission of coronavirus.

1. Exterior
   

   

   In according to exterior looks, Kia has gone for a more bold and bulky look with sharp edges while Hyundai as gone for a softer look with curved edges. Palisade also gets sharper front headlamps while Kia gets vertical headlamps. The huge front grille of Hyundai Palisade along with the chrome on it looks decent but Kia Telluride has a better grille. In the taillamps, the shapes are reversed. Palisade gets vertical lamps while Telluride gets sharper lights going from mid to the corners. Branding is similar in both cars which is now a staple. This is one of those that are down to personal preference, and our preference here is the Hyundai Palisade. The curvy look gives it a premium feel

2. Interior 

   

   Similar to the exterior, the interior also comes down to personal preference. Still, the quality of the interior cannot be a personal preference rather than what is sturdy and better overall.

   Hyundai and Kia both have loaded their respective cars with cream-coloured top quality leather upholstery. Palisade doesn’t, however, stops where Telluride does. The upholstery is present on both the seats and the inside of the doors while Telluride gets them only on the seats and the door panels are covered in Piano black hard plastic which cannot match the sheer look the Palisade gives out. The hard plastic does make the Telluride more durable than Palisade’s leather upholstery though.

   Hyundai Palisade also has new knobs and buttons which are not present on its other cars while the Kia Telluride gets the same kind of interior feel like its other cars.

3. Features

   

   This where the similarities start to show up in Palisade and Telluride. Both SUVs get heated seats for the first and second rows, heated steering, sun shades in the first and second row, power liftgates. They both also have a similar 10.25-inch Infotainment system with Andriod Auto and Apple Car Play

   The difference being Telluride’s digital cluster being better than looking and more premium than what Kia offers. Another smaller changes include power-folding third-row seats in Hyundai.

   The palisade wins this one by hair’s breadth.

4. Interior Space 

   

   With all possible seat positions, Kia Telluride has more space than the Hyundai Palisade. With all the seats upright Palisade gets 509L cargo space which increases to 2,447L with third and second row folded.

   Telluride with normal seats gets 601L up to 2,455L with last two rows folded. Not to mention it also has more space for passengers with a taller body giving more headspace in all three rows.

5. Engine Specifications
   

   

   Both cars have similar powertrain doe to a tee. A 3.8L V6 engine with an output of 291 horse-power and 355Nm torque. the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. They both feature different driving mode which can be changed with a drive mode knob, which also has settings to allow better driving experience off-road and or on snow.

6. Fuel Economy
   

   

   If both of the cars have similar engines, they will have similar fuel economy too. As the cars haven’t released in India yet we can’t really on ARAI but the website of the companies. According to Hyundai Palisade gets 8.13 km/L while Kia Telluride gets 8 km/L. The difference is negligible making both cars get a point each.

7. Safety
   

   

   Safety is a necessary feature of a car. You never know when you might get into an accident do its better to be prepared than to be sorry later. Both cars are jacked with safety features.

   Both Telluride and Palisade gets forward collision avoidance, ACC, blind spot monitor, lane-keeping assistance and many more.

   Insurance Institue Of Highway Safety has however stated that Telluride in all of its trim doesn’t have enough high beam illumination which made it not get the Top Safety Pick + rating. While Palisade got the rating due to having a better headlamp performance as all the other safety features are similar.

8. Price Range

   

   Both cars are flagships of their respective companies. That being said an Indian launch is still awaited for both the cars and if they do come to India a price point of around 50 Lakhs is to be expected. We really can’t rate the cars on this factor as this part is plain speculation and the companies can undercut each other with really aggressive pricing. In countries where these cars are already launched, they are similar in price.

9. The Result

   

    

   With 3 points more than the rival, Hyundai Palisade wins. In defence of the Telluride two points are entirely subjective as different people like different looks. We happen to like more curved looks while someone else may like rugged looks offered by the Kia Telluride better which is completely normal. Similarly, we prefer upholstery inside a car while someone might like the look of piano black on hard plastic.
