With OEMs continuously working hard to deliver quality products to consumers, things are getting a lot better for the industry as a whole. And now, with the month of January bringing in hope for what’s to come in 2023, here’s how Hyundai Motors did in December 2022.
20% Growth and Beyond
When it comes to domestic sales Month-On-Month figures, HMIL reported about 20% growth in December 2022. Sales figures shot up and stood at 38,831 units from 32,312 units. Volume gain was also in the green mark at 6,500 units.

In terms of standing, however, Hyundai couldn’t manage to retain its number two position in terms of domestic sales, which Tata took over. Exports, however, improved at 14%, up by 19,000 units from 16,621 units, with a volume gain of 2,400 units.
Export sales were also up by 14.4%. HMIL exported 19,021 units in December 2022, compared to 16,621 units in December 2021. Cumulatively, the company retailed a total of 57,852 units, which is an 18.2% growth, compared to December 2021, wherein it retailed a total (both domestic and export) of 48,933.

In terms of the Q3 aggregate, Hyundai registered sales of 1,34,834 units, up from 1,06,334 units. With a volume gain of 28,500 units, growth stood at 26.80 per cent. And with H2 sales at 2,84,544 units, the figure was up from 2,34,329 units in 2021. This translates to a volume gain of over 50,000 units with a growth of 21.43 per cent.
At the end of 2022, domestic wholesales for Hyundai were reported at 5,52,511 units, up from 5,05,033 units in 2021. This results in a volume gain of 47,478 units with a 9.4 per cent growth. And with that, Hyundai ends 2022 with higher wholesales than Tata Motors, its closest competition in current days. In fact, it is important to mention here that with an overall domestic wholesale of 5,52,511 units, Hyundai recorded its highest-ever domestic sales in 2022 since its inception.
SUVs Steals The Show: Tarun Garg
On Hyundai’s successful run in December, Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing & Service) said, “Our relentless pursuit to redefine customer experience and a strong product portfolio aligned with consumer trends has led to HMIL recording its highest-ever domestic sales of 5,52,511 units in CY 2022, a growth of 9.4% YoY.
He further added that despite challenges in the last few years, Hyundai has continued to challenge existing boundaries. SUVs now contribute to more than 50% of Hyundai’s overall volumes, and Hyundai’s showstopper model CRETA has already registered its highest ever annual sales volume of 1,40,895 units in CY 22 since its introduction in 2015.”
Garg further said that, “On the back of Indian customers’ rising affinity for SUVs, we further strengthened our SUV line-up with the introduction of three new trend-setting SUVs – “all-new Hyundai VENUE”, “all-new Hyundai TUCSON” and “Hyundai VENUE N Line”, to spearhead transformation in the Indian automotive industry.
