Hyundai is obsessed with Turbocharged petrol engines. Here’s why!

Hyundai has started focussing on putting the turbo petrol engines in its lineup. Hyundai Venue was the first one in the Indian lineup to get a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Following the Venue, Hyundai Aura became the first compact sedan to get a turbocharged petrol engine. The Grand i10 Nios also gets a turbocharged petrol engine which generated 100hp.

Ever wondered why Hyundai is shifting the focus towards turbocharged petrol engines? What is this new strategy that Hyundai is working on? The all-new 2020 Creta also gets a turbocharged petrol engine in the top-end variant. The Creta Sx(O) comes at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 17.2 lakhs and for the price you pay, this machine will generate 138 hp! That’s quite great we suppose.

Moving forward, Hyundai is also planning to put the 1.0-litre 120hp turbocharged petrol engine in the i20 that is about to hit the Indian market soon. Hyundai has just realised the driving passion that Indian youngsters hold. Hyundai aims to target a new set of audience who wish to experience a more powerful form of the Hyundai cars and enjoy a thrilling driving experience.

The Korean automaker has decided to try their hand at the turbocharged petrol engine market because the turbocharged engines have a mixed history in India. The Volkwagen Polo 1.2 TSi was the most popular turbo hatch in India. The Baleno RS managed to gather a whole new set of audience who wanted to experience the performance along with the brand trust.

Other German brands like Skoda have made their mark in the Indian market with the turbo engines. All the auto enthusiasts among us might be knowing the experience that the turbocharged engines deliver especially in the case of Skoda. Talking of the competition, Renault is also working on a turbo petrol engine for the Triber and the Duster. Mahindra also plans to debut their mStallion turbocharged engines soon.
