Powertrain or engine sharing is common among the automotive manufacturers and the situation here is alike.

Engine specs

Engine 1.0L Kappa Turbo GDi Petrol 3 Cylinder
Power 120 ps @6,000 rpm
Torque 172 Nm @ 1500-4000 rpm
Transmission 7-Speed DCT
  • Powering both the cars is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that generates a hefty 120ps of max power.
  • Propelling both the vehicles at a brisk pace, this motor is capable of producing 172Nm of peak torque.
  • That said, there are various transmission options one can go for. But here we are after the one with automatic, i.e, DCT.

This is not even the point to worry so let’s move a little further.

The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is available with a DCT transmission in the S variant of the Venue (Base Turbo DCT model). Talking about the i20, Asta is the closest variant that gets the turbo petrol treatment with DCT. There are a lot of things to consider when choosing the right variant. Here is what all of them have to offer.

S Variant (₹10.92 Lakhs, ex-showroom)

Talking a little deep, the S variant of the Hyundai Venue is one above the base. Well, this means that it misses out on crucial stuff like a rear wash and wiper but thankfully possess a defogger.

  • This is the variant to go for, if you are on a tight budget and only require excitement with driving pleasure of an automatic.
  • Also, the S variant does miss out on some things, it surely has some essentials like a cooled glovebox.
  • Talking safety, Venue has ESC, Dual Front Airbags, Vehicle stability management and more.

SX Plus Variant (₹13.02 Lakhs, ex-showroom)

Sadly, the DCT variant tops at SX Plus and not the SX(O). Considering that the Venue does not get some pretty common and essential things like a rear wash wiper at this price. (We wish Nissan could give some classes to Hyundai)

  • Additionally, the Venue also misses out on rear arm-rest with cup holders.
  • But still, it gets many other necessary features like automatic climate control and cruise control.
  • Besides, this vehicle has the side curtain airbags deleted. Rest the safety list is identical to that of the S variant with the inclusion of a reversing camera.

Asta Variant (₹12.12 Lakhs, ex-showroom)

Okay, considering that Asta is the starting variant where you can go for the DCT the price sure is a notch above to that to the Venues’. But it is justified as the i20 does offer a lot more features.

  • Speaking of which, exclusive to the i20 is the ambient lighting on the inside.
  • On the exterior, the noticeable change is the LED projector headlights that surely have a better illumination versus the halogen one in the Venue.
  • Fun fact, even though Asta is not the top end trim in the vehicle’s line-up it does offer a rear wash and wiper. Thanks, Hyundai!

Asta (O) Variant (₹12.69 Lakhs, ex-showroom)

Let’s give some time to sink it in, that this hatch costs ₹12.69 Lakhs ex-showroom. A hefty amount for a hatch, or is it? Let us know in the comment section below. Moving on, the Hyundai i20 gets literally gets a truckload of creature comforts.

  • Most importantly we can have the DCT transmission with 6 airbags. This is the safest it can get.
  • Cruise control is also a boon when cruising out on the highways. This is as laziest it can get.

Which is The Better Driver’s Car?

With the safety and creature comforts out of our way, let’s talk about the seat most of the buyers will be interested in. After all, DCT is indeed a sweet gearbox that is exciting as well as tractable.

  • Hyundai Venue being a compact SUV it sits a litter higher on the ground making it a slow handler. This is where the i20 leads the fight hands down.
  • This ground clearance lends the Venue better stance and a little bit of road presence. Coupled with that, the Venue can also do a little bit of off-roading. Complementing the ride quality is the perfectly tuned plush suspension.
  • Hyundai i20 sits a little closer to the ground making it a perfect handler. Also, the suspension is also a little stiff when compared to that of the Venue.
Verdict:
  • If city driving is what you’ll mostly encounter with a few drives country roads and care about cornering, i20 is a better bet. Of course one has to consider the premium over the Venue for the so-called entry-level i20 Turbo DCT.
  • And if it is more of country roads, and long tours and are a little tight on your budget Venue couple be just right. Making the deal even crisper is the ride quality which is obviously plusher than i20.
