With the introduction of BS6 from the 1st of April, most of the Indian manufacturers have withdrawn their cards from the Diesel segment. Hyundai one of the brands confident enough still chose to offer Diesel. According to research after Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai was the most trusted Diesel preference.
Officials at Hyundai are confident enough to still give Diesel as in option. Earlier there were more than 50% of Hyundai’s Diesel cars preferred over petrol. Now after the implementation “Hyundai’s Diesel engines are still going strong” said Hyundai. There still are customers who prefer low running costs over their petrol siblings especially in SUVs.

Diesel Engines
- Currently, Hyundai cars offer a number of Diesel engines in the Indian market. Hyundai came with a bang and introduced its updated small Diesel engine. The updated engine comes in the new Hyundai’s small car offerings, Hyundai’s compact sedan Aura and the hatch i10 Nios.
- The next engine is a new engine that made its debut in the Hyundai’s new venue. The new Hyundai is powered by a 1.5-Litre turbo diesel engine which also powers the new Creta. The 1.5-liter engine comes in 2 states of tune for the respective cars. Later this year we expect the 1.5-liter diesel engine to power the new Verna, facelifted Elantra and upcoming I20.
- A 3rd engine is said to debut in the Hyundai’s new Tuscon later this year.
Alongside the diesel, people are slowly inclining towards automating transmission. This is due to the increasing congestion in the major metro cities. In that front too Hyundai has got it covered. The new cars come with an automatic transmission, be it torque converter or a CVT.
Rivals
As the rivals have backed off Hyundai is few amongst the car manufacturers offering Diesel. Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen, Skoda, Nissan, and Renault all are petrol-only car makers in the Indian market. Well yes, there are Mahindras and Tata which only offer a diesel in the big car segments. Whereas Hyundai is still offering diesel from as low as a hatch. Hyundai’s diesel engines are not only efficient but also high on refinement and low on pollution.
