We have always had a certain attraction towards foreign products, especially cars and bikes. This is justified because there were not many sophisticated Indian cars in the older days. However, this has surely changed in the last two decades. Indian carmakers have been constantly improving their standards and their products have improved a lot. So much so that currently, there are many Indian cars that are giving foreign brands stiff competition. Here are 5 Indian cars that took a stand against foreign brands!

1. Tata Indica

   

   Let’s start with the old school one first! The Tata Indica was wildly popular as a cab, good ride quality and ample cabin space were the primary reasons behind this. It also offered decent features like powered windows, internally adjustable mirrors and speakers. The 1.4L diesel that produced 54HP and 83nm torque was extremely fuel-efficient, making it even better for commercial use. The Indica was also very popular for individual buyers. It offered excellent value for money, decent looks and features, and it also came in with some quirky colours!

2. Tata Nexon

   

   The Nexon is one of the most promising cars in its segment. A modern looking interior, connected car features and a solid safety rating are amongst the things that make it worth buying. It was the first Indian car to score a 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP Crash test! We sincerely believe that the Nexon has played a very significant role in increasing awareness about safety in us buyers.

3. Tata Safari

   

   The Safari has truly been a revolutionary product in India. There are almost zero Safari owners who will disagree with this statement. The Safari Storme gained immense popularity with the police forces of many states, and even with the Indian Army. The GS800 was a variant of the Safari specifically designed for the Army. It had excellent off-road capabilities and a motor that produced 270HP and 800nm torque!

4. Mahindra XUV700

   

   Mahindra’s XUV700 is currently one of the most advanced Indian cars. Along with the general bells and whistles, it offers Level-3 Autonomous driving. This gives it features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking and much more. The XUV700 is the first Indian car to offer such features, that too at a very competitive price!

5. Mahindra Thar

   

   This SUV needs no formal introduction! The OG off-roader of India, that Thar has time and again given much, much bigger SUVs a tough time off the roads. It is one of the most capable cars in the segment, and also a segment higher up. With the 2020 update, the Thar only became better, both outside and inside. It also got a fresh set of engines and an automatic transmission that made it a much better performer than the previous version.

6. Tata Nexon EV

   

   Another Nexon! The reason why the Nexon EV is an important car is that it is Tata’s first electric vehicle. While other electric cars had been in the market before this one came out, the Nexon EV reached out to a much higher number of people than any other car did. This is Tata’s first step towards a more EV friendly line-up, and it indeed is a good product.
