India To Get 4 More Electric Cars This Year!

Although electric cars are not the complete replacement for cars with an internal combustion engine, electric cars are here to stay. This means many car manufacturers are investing in the research and development of electric cars. Now as India is slowly shifting to electric mobility, Indian carmakers and carmakers from across the globe are launching or have electric vehicle launches in their pipeline. We too are curious to see and have more offerings in the electric vehicle segment. So, let’s have a look at the cars that are expected to launch this year.

  1. Mahindra XUV400

    The new Mahindra XUV400 is among the cars that were recently unveiled by the company. Well, this also happens to Mahindra’s first production-ready electric vehicles. XUV400 is essentially a XUV30. But apparently, the XUV400 is a little longer than the XUV300. This is because as of now, there aren’t any dimensional taxes (like the tax for cars above 4m).

    As the company has already unveiled the vehicle we expect Mahindra to launch the XUV400 at the end of December or the first quarter of 2023. Mahindra XUV400 will come with a 39.5kWh battery pack that powers a 148bhp motor generating instant torque of 310N.

  2. Tata Tiago EV

    Next on the list is the Indian carmaker that is leading the electric vehicle segment, Tata. From the front like the conventional Tiago, the Tiago EV will share the front facia with the Tigor EV with some cosmetic changes. That said, the company will launch the Tiago EV on 28th September 2022. Stay tuned, we’ll get you to speed during and after the car’s launch this week.

  3. Hyundai Ioniq

    Up next is a vehicle from the Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai. Hyundai is planning to launch its new electric vehicle in India, the Ioniq. If you are not aware of the fact that this would be the second electric vehicle from the brand after the launch of the Hyundai Kona. That said, like the Kia EV6, we expect the Ioniq to come in two trims, a single motor and a dual motor.

    The vehicle is built on the E-GMP architecture and is offered in single- and dual-motor with All-Wheel Drive configurations globally. The one with a single motor is capable of generating a peak power of 169bhp and 350Nm of torque. On the contrary, the Ionic with duel motors generates peak power, 306bhp and 605Nm of peak torque. We expect Hyundai to launch the Ionic somewhere in the last quarter of 2022.

  4. BYD Atto3

    The Chinese carmaker BYD has already entered the electric vehicle space in the country, with the e6. However, this electric vehicle is only available for commercial fleet owners. But this time around we expect the company to launch the vehicle for the consumer market. With that, we also expect the company to launch the vehicle on 11th October 2022.

    The electric SUV from BYD is expected to come with the option of two battery packs to choose from. One 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh. Additionally, the smaller battery has a WLTP-certified range of 345km and 420km for the bigger battery variant.
