With fossil fuel depleting at a lightning-fast pace Humanity will definitely need an alternative to run the vehicles on the planet. This is where electric vehicles play a major role. But whether these electric vehicles will ply on the roads in the future, time is the variable. As of now, EV can be considered as the perfect alternative. Now talking about electric vehicles in India, we don’t have multiple options. So, here is a list of 10 cars that we wish should be electrified.

In this list, we have coagulated 10 cars that can be bought at a lower price range and slowly ascend to a higher price range.

1. Renault Kwid
   

   

   Starting the list we have one of the cheapest vehicles one can buy in India, the Renault Kwid. Kwid her been a part of the Indian automotive market for a while now and has done wonders for the company. Indeed Renault Kiwd is a gem of a vehicle, with many first in segment features and decent driving dynamics. With the entry of an electric powertrain, Renault Kwid could become the cheapest entry into the EV market in the country.

2. Tata Tiago
   

   

   In India there are several carmakers that do offer an electric powertrain in their vehicles, Tata is among the primary. This means Tata Tiago with an electric vehicle is already possible. That said, Tata Tiago is the safest vehicle in the segment and so drives and handles well, but minus the NVH levels. But if we are considering EVs NVH is something that can be ignored (Or is it Tata?). Keeping that aside, with the electric powertrain from Nexon or from Tigor at least, this hatchback could be the first electric car in its segment.

3. Nissan Magnite
   

   

   The kickstarting point for the Japanese carmaker Nissan has to be the introduction of the Magnite. Nissan Magnite offers the perfect balance between the offerings and the price ratio. It gets a plethora of first in segment features with the perfect blend of driving experience from behind the wheel. That said if Nissan Magnite gets the electric powertrain we think many people would appreciate the move. Also, this will definitely attract a lot of people into the Nissan vehicle’s range.

4. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
   

   

   Moving on, the cheapest vehicle that can seat 6-7 people easily is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Now, what if the company introduces an electric powertrain in Ertiga. Well, this might change the Taxi business and will definitely aid in lowering the carbon footprint as well as the fuel consumption. When it comes to Ertiga, it is a supreme City car and also does well out on the highways. With an electric motor and a battery, it could become one of the best selling MPVs (as it will undercut every vehicle in its segment, except Triber)

5. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
   

   

   One of the most affordable C-segment sedans in the country that doesn’t compromise on the space on the inside and creature comforts is the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Personal experience, The suspension of the Ciaz is plush and super comfy any king of the road. No wonder, many Indian government officials are given the luxury of this capable sedan. Now, if the company introduces an electric powertrain it will make even more sense to buy considering it’ll mostly be chauffeur driven. Keeping that aside, it will be the first vehicle in the segment to get a green powertrain.

6. Hyundai Creta
   

   

   The best selling vehicle for a long time for the Korean company Hyundai is the Creta. Holding Creta, Hyundai has conquered many milestones in our country. Now to dial the competition up a notch, it will be delightful if we see an electrified version of the Hyundai Creta. If you are not aware, Hyundai Kona, which is an electric SUV in India shares its platform with Creta. This means its all-electric powertrain is definitely compatible with the top-selling Creta. Although we assume the Hyundai Creta EV will be a little expensive (typical Hyundai).

7. Mahindra Thar
   

   

   The only vehicle that offers 4X4 in under ₹20 Lakhs is Mahindra Thar. With the recent generation change, Thar got a couple of power train options, turbo petrol and turbo diesel. And these two engines are gem engines as both can do wonders both on and off-road. Now, what if Mahindra introduces an all-electric powertrain for this off-roader. It’ll be silent, torquey (which is a boon in off-roading). Also, with a bit of skill, the vehicle can become the first electric vehicle in India that could conquer any terrain.

8. Jeep Compass
   

   

   One thing pops in our head when we talk about cars from Jeep, tough, robust, well built, and powerful. All the qualities of the cars from Jeep have to do with the off-road capabilities, which Compass surely delivers. Next, with an electric powertrain sure, it will become expensive but it will have a ball of its time driving on Indian roads. We expect if and when Jeep will bring an electric vehicle to Indian it’ll have a +400km range with a lightning-fast charger.

9. Toyota Innova
   

   

   Which vehicle comes to your mind when we talk about a long road trip with your complete family? For the majority of people, Toyota Innova is the vehicle that sticks. Undoubtedly, this MPV has become more than just a vehicle in the Indian market. It has its own cult. Now image Toyota Innova with an equal power motor if not more with a range of more than 400kms and a fast-charging feature. Well, then no one would require a gasoline-powered Toyota Innova. PS: It will be a hell lot expensive.

Tata Altroz EV

The closes vehicle we can actually wish to come soon is the Tata Altroz EV. We saw the Tata Altroz EV at the Auto Expo 2020 and those wondering about its launch we might have to wait till 2022 till further information. That said, the Tata Altroz EV borrows most of the elements from the IC version that is currently in production and we expect it to come with some subtle cosmetic or colour changes.

It is speculated that the Tata Nexon EV facelift will also come with an additional battery pack, which will increase the power of the Nexon EV by 25%. As of now, the electric sub-compact SUV comes powered by a 30.2 kWh battery pack. Also, in some recent reports, the Tata Altroz might get 500+ kilometer of ARAI claimed range.
