Kia Motor’s midsize MPV To Follow the Sonet in India

Kia Motors is playing its cards right. The success of the Kia Seltos and the hype around the luxury Carnival MPV have brought all the positive attention for the South Korean carmaker.

Kia’s next move is stated to be the Sonet SUV which was unveiled at the ongoing Auto Expo 2020. The carmaker has announced that an MPV is to follow the Sonet. While there isn’t much revealed about the MPV, it is being speculated that the car will directly be pitched against the Maruti Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo.

The President and CEO of Kia Motors said in a statement “As you can see, we have launched the Carnival, and with this, we will develop the luxury MPV segment in the Indian market. I have already got some good response from Indian consumers. We are now thinking about another MPV. As you know, Kia is a very strong SUV and MPV player. So the next one I’m considering is another MPV model for Indian customers.”

The Kia Sonet concept had its global unveiling at the Auto Expo 2020. Kia has said that the compact SUV will rival the Hyundai Venue. The Kia Sonet is said to be based on the Hyundai Venue. However, the twist being the more aggressive and distinctive design of the Sonet. When it comes to design and stance, the Sonet looks actually bigger than it really is.

It has also been confirmed that India will be the only production base for the Sonet in the entire world.

The midsize MPV will be based on the Kia Seltos’ platform. Park stated that the MPV will be bigger than the Seltos and priced more affordably. With the upcoming MPV Kia will be eyeing the gap that the discontinuation of Maruti Ertiga has caused.

The can expect the MPV to arrive the Indian market is speculated to be early 2021.

With the Kia Seltos doing wonders, the company aims to grab a major chunk of the Indian automotive market soon.
