Kia Sonet will be the third offering from the Korean car manufacturer. With the positive response from both the vehicles from Kia the Seltos and Carnival, the company has its hopes high. Kia in its traditional fashion will pack the Sonet with top of the line features and quality materials. We first saw the car in the 2020 Indian Auto Expo with the nearly finished car now let’s have a look at what more the Sonet has to offer.
Powertrains and Transmission
Like the other Korean sibling, Kia Sonet might be offering 3 engine options. This may include a couple of petrol engines and a diesel engine.
- A 1.2-Litre Kappa petrol engine which produces 82ps@6,000rpm of power and about 115Nm@4,000rpm of torque.
- Kia Sonet might also come with an exciting 1.0-Litre turbo petrol engine. That churns out about 118ps@6,000rpm of power and 172Nm@1,500rpm of torque.
- A diesel burner might also come with the Kia. Which will be offering 99ps@4,000rpm of power and about 240Nm@1,500rpm of torque
- Kia Sonet is likely to come with many transmission options. 6-speed manual transmission with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an enthusiastic 7-speed DCT which will only be available with the turbo petrol engine.
Design Exterior and Interior
The company claims that the finished car will be similar to the one showcased at the Auto Expo.
- For starters, we can expect the car to get Kia’s trademark the ‘tiger-nose grille’ upfront.
- The front will be complemented by the all Led headlamps and fog lamps down at the bottom.
- On the inside, the car will be getting sporty contrast red accent stitching on the seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel to enhance the sporty feel inside the car. We can expect only the turbo variants to get these sporty features.
- The car might also get a premium sound system to keep the occupants entertained on the inside.
- We expect the car to get the connected car tech similar to that what Hyundai offers in its Venue.
- On the safety front, the car might borrow it from the venue which might include, ABS, EBD, ESP, and a couple of airbags as standard and the top end trim to get more safety features.
Rivals | Kia Sonet
Now Kia might launch its Sonet somewhere this year or in the first half of the next year. The company is pitching the car against many cars in the segment including the car from its sibling the Hyundai Venue. Other cars include the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, etc. Kia will surely be pricing the car aggressively at a slight premium to Hyundai.
