If there is one word to describe the atmosphere surrounding the Auto Expo 2020, that would be ‘electrified’. All the major players who want to stay in the game and make sure their pockets stay filled in the future have arrived with production ready electric cars or electric concepts or both. One of them major players is Kia. Though their technology is no match for the advanced expertise of Tesla, they enjoy a more global presence. And Kia are here at the Auto Expo 2020 with Soul EV and e-Niro.

Kia’s EV Powertrains
Both cars are sold in two powertrains globally. The lower variants get a 39.2 kWh battery and an electric motor that produces 136 hp. Hyundai uses this setup in its India-spec Kona. People with more cash lying around will opt for the bigger powertrain. It has a much bigger 64 kWh battery and a more powerful motor that produces 204 hp. That’s where the similarities end.
Design
Both cars look very different in their design. The Kia Soul is not your conventional hatchback. It looks like a teenager going through puberty. It might get some admirers, but then again there are people who admire the Datson Go.
But the Kia e-Niro tells a different story. It doesnt look weird or stupid. This one looks more like a fully grown adult who has entered the good looking phase after the awkward teen years. One might even call it a macho amongst the electric vehicles because of its cross-over looks.
Kia has not announced the release date of either car in India. The speculation is that they are just for demonstration purposes and to flex their electric power.
