Mahindra Funster concept was in the news since long. The automaker has now confirmed bringing the SUV concept into the expo by the same name. The vehicle is a future concept and most probably will become the next-gen XUV500. The Funster will be a preview to what the next-gen XUV 500 will look like. The new SUV is being readied for market launch later this year.
The Funster shares its design elements with the XUV300 as seen from the teaser. The future SUV concept features slimmer LED headlamps and the 7-slot Mahindra grille. The side profile has got prominent crease lines and the turbine-like alloy wheels add up to the look even more.
If we compare the Funster to the currently existing model of the XUV500, we can make out that the future SUV is offering a much mature look. We can expect the production units of the future XUV500 to be more sharp and modern compared to the first-den XUV500. FYI, the first generation of the XUV500 is almost a decade old by now!
The next-gen XUV500 is expected to debut in the second half of 2020. Under the hood, the next-gen XUV500 or the Funster will be powered by a 2.0-litre BS6 engine. Both the petrol and diesel variants will be available. We can expect both the manual as well as automatic gearboxes to launch simultaneously. No powertrain details for the electric concept of the upcoming Funster has been revealed as of now. It is expected to have a range of around 350-400 kms.
Mahindra Funster or the nex-gen XUV500 whatever the automaker may call it. The car will renew its rivalry on the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector. Ford is also planning to develop an XUV500 based SUV under its new joint venture with Mahindra.
