Mahindra XUV 400 EV vs. Tata Nexon EV Prime


Mahindra has recently unveiled its long-range electric SUV; the XUV 400. With the price announcement scheduled for next year, all other major details have been officially revealed. And by the looks of it all, it seems as if the XUV 400 is all set to lock horns with the Tata Nexon EV Prime. So here are both electric SUVs compared head-on.

So as far as the dimension goes, the XUV EV is about 200mm longer than the Nexon EV. Since sub-4 meter tax benefits are available only for ICE vehicles, the XUV EV is redesigned to be longer than the XUV 300 as well. This gives the EV a bigger boot and better cabin space. Other than that the specs are similar to the Nexon EV.

In terms of battery details and claimed range, the XUV EV gets a bigger battery than the Nexon EV which translates into a better range of 456 kilometres which is a huge 144 kilometres more than the Nexon EV. However, in the Nexon EV’s case, we must say that a smaller battery is more affordable when replaced. Nonetheless, the XUV EV takes the crown.

As evident, the XUV 400 EV again takes the crown as it not only is more power packed but also more torque-rich. Even in the 0 to 100 sprint, the XUV 400 EV does exceptionally well at 8.3 seconds. The XUV400 EV and Nexon EV Max also feature one pedal driving with the highest level of regenerative braking activated. They both also come with different drive modes to offer a choice of driving experiences between sporty and efficient.

Equipped with a 50kW DC Fast Charger, the XUV EV will power up from 0 to 80% in just 50 minutes, as compared to 60 minutes on the Nexon EV Prime. However, with a 7.2kW charger, the XUV 400 EV will take 6.5 hours to fully charge, while the Nexon EV doesn’t support the 7.2kW charger. However, it does support a 3.3kW charger/16A socket which can charge up the Nexon EV Prime in 8.5 hours for which the XUV 400 EV will take as much as 13 hours!
