There have been rumors surfacing that suggest that the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 might be relaunched in India soon! This is highly probable as the Alto series has always been on the top of the sales lists. Let’s take a look at the Maruti Alto and why it should make a comeback in India!
The Original Alto
The Alto was first introduced in India in the year 2000. It offered more space, more features, and a better design when compared to the Maruti 800. The most important thing about the Alto was its price, it was supremely affordable and was probably the cheapest car in India that had an AC! The 800cc engine was the same one we saw on the Maruti 800, but that didn’t make a difference since the performance was never a concern for buyers.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
In 2010, Maruti realized that people loved the Alto, but they didn’t want to relate it to the 800. This is why the OEM came up with the Alto. The K10 featured a redesigned body and a new 1L petrol engine. This engine made ~67HP, which was 20HP more than the original Alto! Even with the bump in the power, Maruti managed to keep the efficiency numbers somewhat consistent, and the K10 was an instant hit! Moreover, later on, the K10 also got the option of an automatic (AMT) gearbox, which made it even more favorable for city conditions.
Why Maruti should bring the Alto K10 back
Alto is not a car, for India, the Alto is an emotion. It was the dream car for many, a dream that was affordable. The Alto enabled millions of Indian families to make their ‘family car dream’ come true. It was supremely reliable, and to date, a 20-year-old Alto can be seen running on Indian roads without any major issues. There’s no doubt that the Alto if relaunched, will do very well in the market.
