Some names don’t need any sort of introduction. Country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is known to have a monopoly in the industry for over two decades now. Ask an Indian dad for a suggestion for a first car, he’ll tell you to rely on Maruti Suzuki. Such is the name of this brand. And, Suzuki being a global brand has cars all over the world. Are we Indians missing out on some cars with the same name but different specs? Yes, indeed! Here is a list of 5 such Maruti Suzuki cars that are sold globally with better specs!

1. Suzuki Ignis

   

   The compact Urban SUV from Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA was one of my favourite cars, until today. It is offered in India with a 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine which churns out 81.8hp of power and a peak torque of 113Nm. The Ignis offered globally under Suzuki has got a 1.2-litre DualJet engine with SHVS tech. Although the power output is similar to the one in India, the global Ignis gets a 4WD option. Yes, you read that right! A 4 Wheel Drive Ignis! Such a compact car and having a 4WD in it would be fun to drive, no? We need global Ignis in India too!

   

   And when it comes to safety, the global Ignis offers a DCBS system or the Dual Camera Brake Support which acts as a secondary vision for you. It not only warns about the impending danger but also assists the driver to avoid it. Moreover, the Suzuki Ignis comes with Lane departure warning function which warns the driver by flashing as well as steering-wheel vibrations. Let the global Ignis come to India, Maruti! Now I like global Ignis more.

2. Suzuki Swift

   

   A hatchback that has been one of the best selling models of Maruti Suzuki, Swift is a choice of many youngsters in India. Be it the performance or the handling, Swift has it all. But do you know that there is a global iteration of this hatch known as Swift Sport? The Indian Swift packs a 1.2-litre engine churning out 81.8hp of power and a peak torque of 113Nm. Now, what if I tell you there is a Swift out there packing an engine which churns out almost double the torque of what we have. Yes, the Swift Sport sold globally has a K14C engine under the hood which delivers a peak power of 138hp while producing torque over 230Nm. Same name, same body and yet an engine that can overpower many cars currently in India deeming themselves to be the most powerful ones!

3. Suzuki S-Cross

   

   How many of do you remember the SX4? The sedan of yesteryear from Maruti Suzuki. It has a crossover iteration sold globally as well as at our land. Globally it is known as SX4 SCross while in India it is known as S-Cross. The name is not the only thing that has been trimmed down to make it suitable for our market needs. The global version gets 3 engine options: 1.0-litre BOOSTERJET, 1.4-litre BOOSTERJET and 1.6-litre DDiS.

   The first generation that came to India back in 2015 had the same 1.6-litre DDiS engine at the offer. But then also the Indian S-Cross lacked a major feature, and that was the AWD or the Allgrip from Suzuki. It is still offered globally but not in India. 4. Suzuki Vitara Brezza

   

   Maruti Suzuki tried hands on the SUV segment back in the early 2000s by launching Grand Vitara. The SUV has been in existence from over 30 years. But it was not able to please the Indian audience at all. It is one of the few products from the carmaker that failed in India. Yet again, the carmaker tried to use the Vitara moniker and introduced a sub-compact SUV in 2016 known as the Vitara Brezza. And it became a huge success. But honestly, it is nowhere near the global Vitara. Let’s take a look at the comparison between engines before dwelling any further.

   And that is how you lack behind. The compact SUV is the segment’s best-seller in India. But it is high time for Maruti to get a real SUV into the market now. And to add fuel to the fire, let me tell you that the Vitara sold globally gets the AWD system too. And now, the Vitara Brezza we know is going to be sold in India under Toyota badging with a different name: Urban Cruiser! We don’t want another Vitara Brezza running around, we want the real Vitara now in India, and this time, built-in India too.

5. Suzuki Celerio

   

   This is one car on the list that is here because of the safety features offered on the global variant. On the engine front, the 1.0-litre DualJet VVT at the global Celerio offers 3Nm of extra torque. But when it comes to safety, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio lacks a lot. Take a look.
