MG Compact EV – Expected launch by June 2023
MG motors is gearing up to make available its first compact EV by June 2023. It has started testing the vehicle on Indian roads. Most probably EV will make its debut at the Auto Expo in January 2023. It is being labelled as the first affordable EV meant primarily for city drives. It will rival Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Tuscan, and Hyundai Kona Electric. The price range should be between 10-15 lakhs.
Features
MG Compact EV will be a small EV with lots of features and technology. It is based on Wuling Air EV (a Chinese EV). MG EV will be the smallest EV car in the country. Following are its expected features:
- Dual-range option
- 2010mm Wheelbase
- 2.9 meters in Length ( 400mm shorter than Maruti Alto)
- 200km on single charge
- Two-door EV
- Sitting capacity of four adults
- 12-inch alloy wheels
- Tail-gate mounted spare wheel
Since this is a city dweller EV, the cabin is strictly four-seater. Although the rear seats will have a comfortable leg space but the cargo space is almost negligible.
Interiors
MG EVs will be the first EV in India to have a double touch screen interior will have a dual-tone set-up. The lighter shades used across the cabin, and the white and grey door pads.
- Twin 10.25-inch screen
- Two AC vents placed horizontally below the screen
- Three knobs for HVAC controls
- Two-spoke unit steering wheel
- dashboard and seats have white and grey color
- Silver-finished switch gear ( like that of the new Mercedes Benz)
- Digital instrumental console
MG motors have corroborated with Tata Autocomp for MG EVs battery. Tata Has a partnership with Gotion, A Chinese battery supplier, for the manufacture, supply and service of battery packs in India. And it will use LFP cells, similar to the ones used in Nexon EV.
