MG Hector, which was launched by MG Motors last year with a BS4-compliant engine is going to get a price hike ahead of the BS6 up-gradation. The carmaker will most likely announce the hike by the March ahead of the deadline of implementation of BS6 emission norms.
- The price of the Petrol model of the Hector can be expected to go up by ₹45,000-₹60,000 whereas the Diesel model will have a major price hike of around ₹1.25 lakh.
- If the sources are to be believed, the Hector won’t see any changes except the BS6 upgrade. The SUV currently comes powered by 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with 48V mild-hybrid system and 2.0-litre diesel engine options. The specs are expected not to change ahead of the emission compliance upgrade.
- As it is known that the petrol engines do not require many changes for getting BS6-compliant, it is the diesel unit which will get additions which will result in a steep price hike. The diesel engine will be getting a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and a urea tank. There are talks about upgrading the diesel engines with start-stop tech in order to increase fuel efficiency but will also add to the cost of the car.

- For the transmission options, the SUV will continue to get a 6-speed manual transmission and there won’t be an automatic transmission for the diesel option.
- Booking for the BS6-compliant MG Hector are expected to commence around mid-February. An important point to note here is that the customers who have already booked the BS4 model will get a BS6-compliant model after the BS4 stock is finished.
MG Motor is set to showcase a 14 cars line-up at the Auto Expo 2020 one of which will be a 6-seat Hector which will be named Hector Plus. Apart from this, Maxus D90 SUV and a new MPV concept will be showcased at the event.
