The Motor Vehicle Act came into effect on September 01, 2019. Many people were outraged by the increase in fines. Just after a few days after its implementation, a person set his motorcycle on fire because he was fined heavily by the police. Well, A similar incident happened on 1st January 2020.
The video below was uploaded by ANI News and depicts the incident that happened on that day. The person has been identified as Vikas and is a resident of Sangam Vihar, Delhi. He was riding his motorcycle in the south Delhi area when he was stopped by the police because he was not wearing a helmet. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, the fine for not wearing a helmet is 1000 rupees.
The traffic police imposed a fine on the rider that resulted in a heated argument between the police and the rider. After this to make the matters worse the rider poured fuel on his bike and set it on fire. Following this horrific incident, a case was registered against the rider at CR Park police station, Delhi.

When the Motor Vehicle Act was implemented last year It took no time to make news headlines as the fines which the motorists were subjected to reached tens of thousands. There have been at least two more cases where people acted violently when fined heavily. As per the government, this act will reduce the accidents on the road as people will be more careful while driving motor vehicles.
India ranks first in terms of road accidents and over 1.5 lakh people die every year due to this. However, under the Motor Vehicle Act which has increased the fines and made laws stricter, we believe it should reduce car accidents to some extent.
